ghettosynth wrote: But it is. The reason that the better software is on iLok and you find yourself willing to deal with it is because the firms that make those plugins aren't willing to take greater risks given the state of piracy in the plugin market.

So, in other words, without the stronger methods of protection, those firms might not choose to engage in this market and, consequently, you would not have the plugins that you have.

I should point out here that arguing that iLok has been cracked isn't a counter to this point. If it were, those firms would say "hmm, iLok is costing us money and we can make more money if we don't pay Pace and instead use something less crackable, since iLok is cracked anyway." No, they don't say that because their perception is that, despite that some efforts have been made in cracking iLok protected software, they still view it as one of the safer, if not the safest methods of copy protection.
First, best plugins are not solely limited to the domain of iLok. Waves, PA, NI, U-he, Waldorf, DMG, Fabfilter, Valhalla and countless others do not use iLok and are making plugins that are better or equally as good as any of the iLok using plugins. Waves, which was the second biggest Pace customer after Avid and the industry standard when it comes to plugins, actually dropped Pace.

Secondly, some of the protection that is not iLok is still uncracked more or less. iLok plugins get cracked very fast these days, so as far as protection goes there's certainly better systems out there. Obviously there are other reasons for companies to stick to iLok, the most important probably being no need to deal with license management in house.

As far as developers seeing Pace as the most secure, it's probably true to some extent but it's obviously very hard to admit for any of the iLok shilling developers that Pace sucks overall.

Great example being Empirical Labs. When iLok was breached they put the release of Arousor on ice for months, while the dev was shilling for Pace in Gearslutz. While they got to the release, Slate had their own version coming out and so did SKnote, so their competitive advantage had greatly diminished. After it was eventually released the end result was exactly as expected. Then they went on to release v2 and again put the Windows version on ice for half a year because Pace was supposedly fixing their system. Dev was again shilling for iLok on Gearslutz while Windows users were mightily pissed off. So eventually they released the Windows version update and a week later the expected happened again.

Actually it would be very interesting to know how for example PSP is doing after their recent switch to iLok. Their plugins get still released mostly the next day as they ever were, but now they must be paying Pace insane amount of money, while I and probably many more have sold all their PSP plugins and stopped buying anything from them.

Gotta say if I could do it all over and control time and space and all that shit Id get all the big studios just usin reaper and fabfilter or ni plugs ahahahhaha
But it aint like that so we gotta deal. Gotta have all the plugs and software everyone uses already right? Then new plugs roll out on ilok all the damn time and new cats pick it up and infect the rest of us. Gotta have that new plug now even if its just more of the same with a different name...

I dont pay for the studios gear so Im not in the right to complain. I get it. But its f*ckin obnoxious it works like that. And thats comin from me hahahaha

Fantastic news, people! iLok is working perfectly! Close thread!
What's so difficult to grasp about "works for me"?
Read the rest of his post, and see if you might understand.
I know it's hard for you, but try, just this one time.

You mean you didn't quote the part you actually referred to? You should learn the basics of forum posting before entering a discussion here really. I know it's hard, but, even you should manage it, eventually.

BTW, you shouldn't get so emotional over the topic. I know, the iLok haters ALWAYS do, but, to be taken serious, maybe you should consider making actual and rational points, instead of acting like a stirred up chicken.

I didn't reply for you, but for the poster of the quote. Imagine that, huh?
And if you think my posts in this thread are emotional, or that I'm even an iLok hater, you're even more delusional than I thought.

Well, i have yet to read a serious argument from you on the topic. Instead, you fixate on proving how stupid the others are, as usual. If you wouldn't be all emotions, you wouldn't be so bitter in everything you post. Simple. If you hate people having a opinion which differs from yours, you should stay out of and kind of discussion, because all you add to it is horseshit.

You know the saying. Horseshit in, horseshit out.

I didn't like ilok at first, but these days I actually prefer it. I just wish all dev's who want to dongle-protect their software would use it, as, at the moment I have 3 dongles: a usb stick for waves, e-licenser for steinberg stuff, and then ilok. I usually don't have enough ports on the back of my computer, so I end up with a dongle in a front usb port, which worries me that I'll knock it out etc.

I actually prefer ilok these days. I own some software (not music related, but maths software) and every time I reinstall windows or change hardware I have to contact the company and request a new license.

Would much prefer it if they would let me store a license on an ilok.

That is not to say I haven't had problems with ilok, but mostly software-related with the pace drivers or whatever, crashes, BSOD etc. But has been stable lately.

That's what hubs are for. It also minimizes wear and tear on the dongle itself because if you move it to a different computer you just unplug the hub.

Yep, I agree.

Good suggestion. I actually forgot about hubs :tu:

Notwithstanding the OP's and other's issues with the pace software, these days I like dongle protection, it is easier to just reinstall whatever software, plug in dongle and away you go.

I have had some issues over the years with pace, particularly with pace and Windows 10, but zero issues with e-licenser. Just hope I don't get burned and my ilok dies, as I have no ZDT coverage.

Well, then you have to read more and post less.

And I am an actual iLok user. You know, the exact opposite of what you are.
I'm not hating on people with a different opinion. Please point to where you've come across that.
You, on the other hand, just in this thread alone, have had numerous jabs at peoples "stupid" opinion, with "just another day at KVR", "you know how the internet is", etc.

So take a hard iLok in the mirror, and tell your mom to restrict your computer and internet access even more. Because you're as usefull and interesting as a pet dongle.

Because of your utter lack of intelligence pertaining to the issues in this thread.

You know, i think every single one of my posts in this forum is a lot more valuable than your always ongoing "FU, i'm better than all of you". In a little more sweetened words, but that's basically what every single one of your sad posts is about. Which makes me wonder what a sad human being you are, really. Lighten up, dude, life is too short to be a sad, bitter f***.

Post

That must be the best non-bitter post of the year. So far. Because you're not done posting here. Sadly.
