Hi Lance..Its good to hear Im not the only one hearing the difference

...I think it makes the dicission about what host to go with even more complex.

...how is the soun in Sonar compared to logic??

Post

sorry, should have kept my mouth shut i guess, but sometimes it's hard to just take it in. :)

Post

i cant really describe what sonar does with the sound, it's like thinner somehow.. thin in a bad way that is. no body etc..

when i eventually HAVE to move to another host, i guess it will be samplitude 8. looks real nice, and the sound from samplitude isnt that bad either.

Post

There's definitely a difference in the quality of the effects between Logic, Sonar and Cubase. Beyond that, you're just foolin' yourself. But I'm sure this is just flame bait, so get to it guys.

Post

hm.. i guess its more like you, that are fooling yourself devon, sorry. :)
i am not gonna go into a thread like this, i have better things to do, just wanted to put down some facts.

enjoy the following conversation guys. :)

Post

good point mike. :D

When someone's got 'proof' to base those facts in, I'm all ears. :D So far, no one has offered 'proof'.

i had pretty good evidence that the same instrument, specifically Absynth, sounded different in Project 5 than Sonar

but given my recent fresh install and re-install of sound drivers etc., the two hosts sound exactly the same.

i have no exxplanation for this and would be grateful for a good theory that could explain this.

it alos occurs to me that I may need to go back and listen to synths I previously characterized as being clogged in the mid-range.

it seems to me that whatever may have accounted for this differnce of two hosts using the same drivers and sound cards sounding so different on the same instruments/fx may also account for how these arguments arise.

I was a Logic user for PC for years, and I have switched to MAC because of Logic Pro.
When Emagic stopped PC Logic update, I also tried to switche to another software, I tried Cubase, but I found it's plug-in quality is really bad ,and if you want I high quality plug-in , you must pay more money, and it's GUI is really a foolish design, it make me work like a technique guy instead of music composer, and I find I can compose nothing with Cubase . But Logic is really wonderful tool made for composer, I can make my working invirments according to my habit and my hardware, so every time I start Logic I can immediately get into the music compose instead of finding a folder where to put your music project whatever it's good or bad.

Another thing make me switched to MAC is that the Logic Pro 's Space Designer reverb and it's frezze functiion. I made game orchestral music for time, reverb is very important in orchestral music, but I have not enough money to buy those DSP card like UAD-1 or TC Power Core, and I want to say that in PC , Logic 's reverb plug-in is just so so , so I trid many revrb plug-in , I found that N.I Reactor's Space Master's plug-in is really a very nice reverb Pulg-in used for Hall reverb for the orchestral music. But when I switch to MAC I found Emagic's Space Designer is much better than N.I Reactor's Space Master, so I neednot have to buy Reactor again.

Another thing is Logic Pro's Freeze function, I trid Cubase and Nenodo's freeze, it's really so slow, but in Logic I can finish 3min 20 tracks's freeze in 1 minute.
It really help me out of CPU overolad.

So I am very happy that I switch to MAC and still own Logic in my music life.

My music made in PC :

Need your suggestions :P :P

And now I am slowly get used to MAC platform ,forget all about Asio and Vst.

I hope I will made more and better music by Logic Pro and MAC .

maybe I missed something..like the facts?
maybe you meant, you just wanted to put down your subjective opinion.

Oh goodie another host wars thread. The "big three" are way overrated. Get yourself Tracktion and make music, not environment templates :D Oh, and save yourself $500 in the process.

the differnce in logics and cubases sound is proabaly becuase they default to different setings for the panning laws - did you change them ?

get traktion - and be completely unable to work with video, midi (comparitively speaking), have a useless freeze function (yes folks unfreezing everything is useless if you have a lot frozen cos that cpu meter goes straight to 100%)and lack of multi monitor support

besides its not environment templates - its taoilring the workings of every aspect of the program to your own needs OK

Now I don't think it matters that much, but there is a difference in DAWs, not enough to color your own ability to make a bad or great mix though.

For instance using Absynth tracks of the exact same sound with the exact same MIDI track to see how much more CPU efficient Logic is than Live on my mac, there was a noticeable difference in the way the multiple instances of the same notes sounded in each app.

If your curious, the G4 ran the 16 maximum Absynths in Logic, yet only 7 in Live 4. So personally THAT's what I'd miss the most if I switched all the way to Live, or some other app, the efficient CPU use of Logic.
