:x correctly. I'm running xp and have 2 of them. I'm not sure that they are running at the right speed though and my audio drive is an external usb 2.o drive so i'd like to make sure i'm getting the through put I need.

if you plugged a usb 2.0 device into windows XP. it would immidiatly give u a popup saying "HEY BUDDY, YOU ARE PLUGGING A HIGH SPEED DEVICE INTO A SLOW PORT... etc etc" or something similar if its not using usb 2.0

if u don't get this... u are fine :)

as a quick test - if you can transfer a file with a speed greater than 1,5 MB/s it's USB2 .
so , for example , take a 90 MB file and send it to this audio drive . if it takes less than a minute , bingo .

thanks i'll try that. i've got an amd xp2500 shuttle desktop and i've just reinstalled the os, the mobo cd that came with the system says something about 'to install the usb 2.o connect to microsoft and do blah blah blah,' so i was wondering if that was really necessary or what. i'll do this 90mb file thing and see.

IIRC you need at least service pack 1 if you're on XP for the usb2 drivers if there aren't any separate ones .

Hi there - just out of curiosity, would you be able to outline what the "blah blah blah" is here? I've seen a few little issues with the USB 2.0 on my laptop (popping audio, etc) and I'm wondering if there's something I need to do at MS.com to fix this - thanks in advance!
