I wasnt sure which forum 2 post this in as im not sure how they are made !
I rarely post on here but when i do i recieve excellent help so im back !
Basically i make new underground music and i have most aspects of the music locked down. BUT i am trying to learn how to master the bassline for this music and it isnt proving easy! I use kontakt sampler for all sampling. Also i use an array of synths such as Albino, Bass Station, V-Station, Imposcar etc... I just cant seem to get the sound i want but i know its possible 2 gain this result from what im using (U can imagine my frustration!) Anyways here are a few tunes that i want to try and learn the strategies used to make these basslines...

Thanx for your time and help people !!

What all those basses have in common is alot of modulation of the filter cutoff. Try putting a beefy bass patch through a band pass filter, then compressing the the hell out of it. Maybe add a touch of distortion afterwards.

you say i need an access virus but i dont...
coz the people who r making these tunes dont use the virus... so surely i would be wasting my money as its achieveable with what i have already...

This sounds like slow D&B, maybe its called chill and bass ??
Concerning the bass, try to use a bass in kontakt(like a sine or squarebased one) and add an envelope modulator to the filtercutoff. Put a slow attack time on it so the cutoff starts low and after some ms the filter opens up (plus some huge compression). This should produce the kind of base that is in the examples.

These are the standard nuschool breaks basslines. Use a subtractive synth, and a simple oscillator with a squarewave waveform. U should get this bass sound if you experience with the cutoff (lowpass filter, mostly 12db/oct, with medium or low resonance level) envelopes and LFO's. Use also envelopes for the pitch of the oscillator. If you do so, u can give the bass some extra punch.
These basses are quiet simple to be done.
Here, i made an example:

First without filter, then a 12 db/oct lp filter, with medium resonance.
You can boost up the bass more with compressors or multiband compressors. (it's recommended)

Did u listen to the sounds he's looking for? Those synths are definitly squarewaves.mindless wrote:Also, try to stay clear of any squarewavs, as they strain the cones on the monitors...a saw or some kind of spectral waveform is better...avoid any kind of "on-off" waves!
"they strain the cones on the monitors" wtf

yep, I don´t have the exact details, and if I´d try to explain it´d prolly come out wrong...but I guess that someone will pop in and explain it for us!9b0 wrote:Did u listen to the sounds he's looking for? But trust me...exess squares is very bad for the speakers as the cones jump from zero to full if you´re using a squarewave...a continious wave like a saw is better!

If it is the way you say, Botchit Breaks can close doors now...
It's not that easy. Every sound can harm the speakers if they get overriden. Even a sinewave, if it's too loud. If you use squarewaves in a mix, or even if you filter them, the heavy jumps gets gone! The whole wafeform changes.
