McDSP EC-300 Echo Collection [ATM Mac only]

... is currently on a flash sale and after some YT tuts I`m tempted.
Like most users (I guess) ... I feel covered if not flooded with delays
but this creation looks pretty complete by itself and covers a fair dose of (mixing) ground.
I`d like to prompt some talks, reports, feedback etc.
particularly of those using it routinely and over a longer period of time.
Some hiccups, issues, something`s missing? Could well be "overall supa dupa" as well.
Just in case ...
1. I apologise for already existing EC-300 threads, some time problems ...
2. No, I don`t want to waste iLok space with inerasable demos
3. Please no generalized discussions about delays, iLok or McDSP per se, thank you

And it requires an iLok dongle.

OP has specifically asked not to talk about either McDSP or iLok, so your post is off-topic.jens wrote:And it requires an iLok dongle.
mine, however, isn't, because according to OP's signature, he's on Windows, yet he said he's "tempted" by EC-300, which is Mac-only (at least for the moment - Windows version has been "coming soon" since September), which leads me to suggest that he didn't know it was Mac-only.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

to be fair, I think jens was only indicating that its a dongle-only iLok product, hence no 'soft' authentication, and the OP was more trying to avoid debates about iLok.Burillo wrote:OP has specifically asked not to talk about either McDSP or iLok, so your post is off-topic.jens wrote:And it requires an iLok dongle.
(Glad you pointed out the Mac-only thing, though, I hadnt noticed that myself)

I purchased it anyway.Burillo wrote:it's mac only for now. in case you didn't notice.
Funny I contacted support 2 days ago asking about the Windows version.
They told me it should be out "late Spring".

same here. They're consistent in their answer at least...but it's been out for a LONG while with thekj.metissage wrote:I purchased it anyway.Burillo wrote:it's mac only for now. in case you didn't notice.

"windows version coming soon" caveat the whole time ;] ... would really like to see if it does anything that is not covered by Echoboy or delays of that vein... but the $49 is really tempting

Convolution in the feedback path looks interesting but for the number of times I'd use it, I'd probably opt to just lash it together using one of the modular plugins instead of buying yet another delay.blortblort wrote:would really like to see if it does anything that is not covered by Echoboy or delays of that vein... but the $49 is really tempting

I'm tempted but also wary and suspicious of vague explanations and long overdue
delivery dates. As much as I'd like to trust them, I don't. I will believe they can
deliver a working version for windows when I see it. They don't seem to be the
best developers when it comes to the platform.
I made all those presets for the VST2 versions, not because I couldn't use VST3,
but primarily because their VST3 versions don't really work well on windows...
*IME anyway, with every DAW I own that can use them pretty much. E.g. Bitwig,
Reaper, FL Studio, Samplitude, Studio One 3 etc. 99% of 'my' VST3 issues have
had McDSP at their center
As for VST2.4, they all work great! Near as I can tell, it's something about
the way they draw the display with VST3.

1) OP doesn't own the thread.Burillo wrote:OP has specifically asked not to talk about either McDSP or iLok, so your post is off-topic.jens wrote:And it requires an iLok dongle.

This. Thank you!whyterabbyt wrote: to be fair, I think jens was only indicating that its a dongle-only iLok product, hence no 'soft' authentication
I almost purchased some McDSP stuff myself in the past because at first I failed to realize that it requires a dongle. They tend to have that information well-hidden.

I feel the strong urge to write a bit more about this.
For a while, this is going to be THE thread about the EC-300. If I wanted to discuss this plugin tomorrow, I couldn't start another thread about it without people saying "there's already a thread about it right above yours" and without risking for it to get locked by a mod for this very reason.
And because of this, I don't think the OP has any right to declare what must and what must not be discussed in this thread. That is what I meant with my quote above.
