thx for the tips. I mostly plan on using the finger sensors (if I understand correctly they register how far your finger is bent?) to control various parameters on modular setups in energyXT. That tablet software is cool, It may go on the list as well

Yeah, and those work very well. Learning to bend your fingers independently will be tricky, of course. I wonder how hard it would be to play guitar or bass while wearing a P5 -- I should try that tonight...glurgle wrote:thx for the tips. I use the current version mainly with Reaktor, so that isn't really an issue for me. I could remap CCs to notes if I wanted, but usually I use it in a more Theremin-type way, with pressure controlling overall volume and the other control channels mapped to various other parameters. Thanks again for writing MIDITab. I love it!Borogove wrote: The most asked-for change is to generate MIDI note data as well as controller data. It's not trivial to decide what the best way to do that is.

Does your tablet support the tilt and azimuth/angle inputs? Do you use them for anything? I found it extremely difficult to consciously control those while primarily focusing on X/Y/pressure control.deastman wrote:I could remap CCs to notes if I wanted, but usually I use it in a more Theremin-type way, with pressure controlling overall volume and the other control channels mapped to various other parameters.

Yes, I have an Intuos 2 tablet, which supports all the parameters. I generally just stick with X/Y/Pressure for the reasons you mentioned. I suppose it could be fun to use the other inputs for an "organic but not quite controlled" influence on a patch. I've been experimenting with different schemes for utilizing the inputs... ultimately I'd like to have an entire song under control of the Wacom, partially performed directly and partially influencing sequences with the stylus.Borogove wrote:Does your tablet support the tilt and azimuth/angle inputs? If any of this sounds incoherent, its because I just worked a 15-hour day, slept 5 hours the previous night and 5 hours the night before that. Its now almost 2am and I have no clue why I'm typing on KVR instead of sleeping.

Actually, one of my objectives for this is to make a bowing controller for string instruments.

Or drive more sophisticated sample playback, with separate sample layers for fundamental and noise/grit. Or a combination of modelling techniques.Borogove wrote:Use the spatial positioning data from the P5 glove to compute bow speed, drive a physical model with that?

Hello,
I know this is slightly off toppic but you
seem to know a lot about this subject.
I want to add a ribbon controller to my set up.
Please help me decide. Get a used discontinued
Kurzweil XM1 expression Mate or the new Doepfer R2M
Where is the best place to purchase?
MC4 Music Computer Specifications:
Dedicated for music. No hardware midi/audio modules, use only VST FX and VST instruments.
Motherboard. Asus P4P800 deluxe APCI and APIC enabled. Hyper Threading disabled.
Processor; Pentium 4 3.2 800 512K
Operating System: Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1.
Music Programs: Cubase SX 2.2, EnergyXT 1.28, Midi-Ox and Midi-Yoke
VST and VSTi: Xphraze, The Grand, D’Cota, Trilogy, Halion, Atmosphere, Stylus, Bosendorfer 290…
Music Hardware: Maxi 294 key midi keyboard controller and USB MidiSport 8x8s midi interface (two midi ports are available)
Audio Card: Waveterminal 192X slot on 5 (shared with PCI 1 and onboard USB)
Also: is there a way to use an extra midi keyboard
controller as a ribbon controller by rolling a narrow
paint roller over the keys? I know it sound dumb!!
PS check out the touch surface: http://www.tactex.com/

I know that it is off topic, but since there is a lot of posts about the P5 Glove, perhaps this will pleased someone :
I've made a P5 Control VST plug which I use to visualize and modify the curves of the controllers send by the P5GloveMIDI of Ross Bencina.
You can see a description and download it at :
http://acousmodules.free.fr (at the bottom of the left list)
The visualization zone is rather big since I use it mainly for spatialization purpose, but if you don't need it you can use the MIDIPlug CS that makes nearly the same thing.
Cheers

Trying to get back on topic:
so what's the word on the new tablet midi interface you are all working on?
I've had little luck myself getting the old wintab sdk examples to work on my machine, perhaps one of you could help me out?
I considered using VBTab, but it seems like a slower solution to use a COM wrapper. I definately don't want to do anything in VB.
I also think the whole thing should work inside a VST midi plugin (I've written a couple of those it's not difficult - I could do that part in a day including the GUI) - I just hate spending weeks learning a new SDK - especially since it's just for one simple project...
Once we can read values from the tablet the rest of the work will be easy. Just some textboxes to input coordinate sets for the different areas of the tablet, and some dropdown boxes that define midi-events
like:
TOP | BOTTOM | LEFT | RIGHT | MIDICHANNEL | EVENTTYPE
send some tablet example code my way please
