Funny, I would've thought that was intentional!? It's a wicked track, you know, felt like it was meant to illustrate a certain spectrum, pushing for the "ancient broadcast" impression.

Was shooting for a sorta 70's, prog rock styled mix.. but yeah, it's all admittedly very mid-range sounding. That frequency range sorta suited most of the instrumentation better I think. It's definitely not a club-banger mix.TrojakEW wrote:It is just my opinion and it doesn't mean that I'm rightprogtronic wrote:TrojakEW suggested adding back more bass.. totally agree.. BTW what I mean is that I can hear in some of your instruments you cut too much of low frequencies and they sound like they coming from a "radio". Even with new version this ""radio" effect is still here. Hope you understand what I mean.
If by "ancient broadcast", you meant a 70's styled production sound.. that's about right.Taron wrote:Funny, I would've thought that was intentional!? It's a wicked track, you know, felt like it was meant to illustrate a certain spectrum, pushing for the "ancient broadcast" impression.
Holy crap.. I'm totally "ancient".
Anyway, this is basically the sound I was going for (skip through it.. it's freaking long):

You mean "coming from a old Radio" like the voice in Video Killed The Radio Star?TrojakEW wrote:It is just my opinion and it doesn't mean that I'm rightprogtronic wrote:TrojakEW suggested adding back more bass.. totally agree.. Relax, I think that goes for most of us...

...ok, I was born in 72, but somehow my heart kinda seems to have gotten stuck in my former life in the 60's prog.rock vibe.

OK.. took another stab at this mix (46th pass.. pls kill me.
). This is literally the toughest thing I think I've ever tried to mix.
Anyway.. tried to retain the original "mid-rangey" nature (because I still feel it suits the basic genre), but also tried to add a bunch of warmth overall. Even the old TV speaker got a bit of an upgrade. Hopefully the entire mix is easier to listen to. I know there's still a few cringy stabs and whatnot here and there.. but I think those moments are about as tame as I can make them, before they completely lose their originally intended character.
This is prolly my last pass at it, unless someone (including myself..) hears something glaringly horrible and wrong somewhere:
https://soundcloud.com/progtronic/progt ... olt-osc110
Also.. TrojakEW, and everyone else.. your opinions totally matter. Still new to this whole OSC thing, and I'm really learning a lot doing these challenges. I'm totally cool with any and all the constructive criticism and feedback I can get, to help me fix and tweak stuff.. and further my knowledge.
On an additional note.. I really enjoy the somewhat torturous and primal nature of trying to generate absolutely every sound, with a single instrument. I'm sorta weird like that.. but maybe we all are.

I think the mix is good, but I'd slow it down...; - ) No space to breathe...
Did you play this all in by hand? Emerson did on Tarkus...
Overall impressive...
And don't listen to me! You have to love it...

Has SoundCloud been hacked or what?
All my songs are gone and I am unable to login to my account as well, have sent a mail to the support team (awaiting their response).
Anyone else facing similar issue?
Edit: There seems to be problem at their end http://status.soundcloud.com/

Yeah.. it's a lot of stuff in a short period of time (many themes.. too many notes). A lot of my progressive stuff is like that. Sometimes I change it up a bit and inject some space (might try that on the next one).. but usually it's just total insanity.Tj Shredder wrote:...I'd slow it down...; - ) No space to breathe...

Some I played in, then tweaked.. and some I just enter directly into the piano roll with the mouse. I like a sort of balance of doing both.
Sometimes I'll even step sequence in a run of notes and/or chords from the controller.. then piece it together with the mouse. It's a great way to assemble odd chords, note progressions and rhythms.
Yeah.. having the same issue. All my songs are gone. My entire artist page sorta comes and goes, with no music listed.baalisoda wrote:Has SoundCloud been hacked or what?

Constantly changing my mind!! Now I'll just blame TrojakEW if my perform poorly this month - you were the last one to sway me.

[Edit: Not my final submission after all. Sorry, I have to ditch this one. It's simply too silly, isn't it? New submission in the works!]
OTT with OPL! I guess Friday the 13th is as good a day as any – here's my submission for OSC 110.

the struggle is real, constant and never-ending. i can all but promise you, you will never be 100% happy with your mix-down, ever. that's why this stuff is so addicting. there's just always so much room for improvement.progtronic wrote:OK.. took another stab at this mix (46th pass.. pls kill me.). this is mostly why i plan to use approximately 237 instances of Klangelstein's Mixer Fixer on my tune.
