It's not about you either. I like me some Xpand too but it makes practically no concessions to modern dance styles. And limiting editing, like Nexus, makes it tough to rework the presets into something that does fit.

In any case, I'd have thought Avenger would be the better option vs Nexus if the OP wants Manuel's kind of sound design - Avenger offers much greater programmability should you need it.

Dunno. For some, it's rather about production ready sounds, than sound tweaking. The way Nexus is used in the respective genre, i doubt many even would like to be able to tweak the sounds any further.

But, hey, as you never can know, it's always important to describe exactly and in detail what you want, and that's what is missing in most OP's here, and elsewhere. That's why people like to post their favorite plugins, or lists of any kind.

Avenger includes lots of multisamples in their packs, just does not do round robin so cannot do the Hollywood nexus pack. But for EDM is fine and ‘hit ready’ out of the box. But is not cheap either but at least there is a demo.

Neither does Nexus default bank really makes it to todays modern dance music (i mean default that you get with nexus) but in general Xpand can be used and very easely, but you need some skill (sorry i snooped around your music on sound cloud, so i understand that you really cant)

Just in case the OP doesn't know either: If you own a USB eLicenser (Steinberg Key) you can just ask the guys from reFX for a Nexus demo. They're usually quite helpful.
In the past I even had the opportunity to test Nexus twice(!) before I bought it.

Nexus is a fantastic rompler. It helps when you are in a creative spree and wants some production ready sounds to realize your idea quickly. Believe me, tweaking knobs to get *THAT* sound is a mood and time killer. Lets not forget that the time and effort is also an investment. Money is not the only thing to consider.

I have used a Piano and two pads presets from the factory lib for one remix track. I just had to dial down the reverb a little bit and usual Eq. I was very impressed that the sounds sat nicely in the whole track without much work.

Avenger is another plugin where you can get similar sounds. Keep in mind you will quickly run out of factory libs in both. By prepared to spend on xpansions which are really focused to the respective genre and excellent value for money. elicenser is required for Nexus but not Avenger. Plus some presets in Avenger may take more CPU, you need a good solid workstation to run multiple instances of Avenger. They keep on making it better with every update. Nexus is pretty optimized CPU wise.

Where was i boasting my skills? what kind of EDM style sample you want to hear?

With all your recommendations to alternatives and complaints about being not flexible enough, you often forget what Nexus is meant to be...

It´s sounds are mostly production ready, which is really a lot of work and for less experienced users not easy to achieve...

It´s sounds are already processed, with tons of layering, which to "recreate" in a similar quality takes you days of work (if you know what you do) and tons of CPU where you have to bounce down most of the sounds and loose any flexibility of any used synth anyway...
This work is already done in Nexus´s patches, it´s ready to play at very low CPU consumption and that is what you pay for...

The delivered quality is outstanding for that type of music it is made for and there is nothing really nothing for the EDM market that delivers this ready made kind of patches out of the box other than Nexus

Avenger, even though it´s very capable, isn´t meant to be an alternative to Nexus... because of it´s flexibility and big feature set, it´s far too CPU hungry as you could use tons of layered sounds in realtime in a project... This is "Nexus´ land"!!!

About the suggestions here:
Nexus: production working horse, which has (for EDM) no competitor out of the box
Avenger: Power house for everything special (depending on the types of sounds can be used more often in a project as well though)

Air products: quite nice especially for that price but need really to dig in, process layering etc... good as pure soundsource but not really more...

Electra and A.N.A 2: very good synths, but again, to let the sounds play in the same ballpark as Nexus, a sampler would be needed (for all the non synthetic sounds Nexus offers and are included in the layering to reach this kind of sounds) and tons of work to find the right sounds for layering, processing etc...

A competitor for Nexus could be Omnisphere, if they could get a good sounddesigner, who knows what he does for EDM music... but anyway, because of their limited 2 layer design, would be quite CPU intense as well... and not really cheap neither

Is Nexus expensive?
Yes it is... it´s a money making machine for the devs because of it´s closed design...
But it is really worth every penny for those who can afford it without whining if it cannot be sold the easy way next day again...
It´s not the poor man´s synth... it´s for people who understand, that if you hire experts to do some work for you, you have to pay for it...

I whole-heartedly agree! Nexus is what it is, and does its thing well. I use many more involved synths for finely-tuned sounds, but Nexus is a treat for so many quality and complex sounds. Just another tool in the process.

And I don't create EDM or anything too much like that. I use Nexus for a variety of piano, guitar, orchestral and new-agey sounds - it's all in which expansions you select to use with it. And Nexus plays well with Zebra2, as I find them very complementary to each other. And also I find a surprising amount of adjustments and splitting-out and recombining of layers can bring a greater sense of fine-tuning than I expected from Nexus.

Yes, Nexus is a bit pricey, IMO. But I bought mine at their Christmas Sale, and then add expansions as needed, and in the long run it doesn't seem too outrageous. I also enjoy their expansion patch demos, where the sounds played are shown on-screen as they come and go within the mix - my favorite way to see/hear patch sets displayed.

So I say, if you like the sounds, can live with its ROMpler limits, and can afford it - get it! I love it, and a year or so later I'm so glad I pulled the trigger.
