I was in the same boat before to start dealing seriously with sound design,i thought i want to make music,i have ideas to release and just need one good synth...one synth is never enough at least 3-4 could work for your mix,my suggestions :
1.Sylenth1
2.Syntmaster one
3.Synth1(free)

Of course... I can imagine, there´s a whole lot to use for something like New Age or even Chill-Out...SciFiArtMan wrote:
And I don't create EDM or anything too much like that. I use Nexus for a variety of piano, guitar, orchestral and new-agey sounds - it's all in which expansions you select to use with it.
There are so many really nice lush pads and atmospheres, evolving stuff... the sound designers did a really good job... hard to find something similar out of the box for a single instrument...
Omnisphere could be so impressive as well, but somehow it doesn´t sound right to me... Eric and friends seem to have a different taste for sound ... it´s a pity... but when I load a pad in Nexus it´s amazing everytime again...

The Unfinished, Luftrum and Hollo know how to make very nice pads, top class sound designers, stuff they did for U-he synths is sublime.
Also the new Lunaris.

Well, there's 400 fresh pads in there, these guys usually sell their 64 sound synth banks for around 30-40 bucks, you do the math, anyone that is really into pads have good treat right here, what is the cheaper and same quality alternative really, Omnisphere, buying banks for other synths which have 15-20 pads in it, Nexus that got handful amount of pads most people used, abused and recognize by now and etc.Trancit wrote:Very nice as well... a bit pricey though for just the pads and the long loading times would annoy me... but it sounds nice
