MIDI PREVIEW in BROWSER with selected Instrument

Hello Musician & Reason Friends, I’m Michael from CH & newbie here, love to use Reason, but…

…it is for me completely incomprehensible that such advanced DAW miss such essential Function.
I really love Reason for the countless possibilities, performance & mostly reliability sake.
But I have to work again with Studio One because of this one missing feature.
There is countless gorgeous MIDI Files you can integrate in your Song.
MIDI drum grooves, melodies or chords progressions, essential components of any Song.
But you can not playback them straight from the Browser while playing your Song!?!? :dog:
PH’s sells even RE’s with MIDI Files, one of my best favourites e.g. I’ll recommend:

Jackbox 7R-909 Analog Drum Module

https://shop.propellerheads.se/rack-ext ... um-module/

This (909) Drum Module comes with 100 MIDI Loops, really really amazing Grooves.
But you can not just pre-listen it direct from your Browser while playing Song.
You have to Drag it in to your Track, but if you don’t like this one clip,
you have to delete it and repeat the whole procedure till you find matching one. :bang:
This is absolute Workflow Killer, it is like “Ice Age - Workflow” in 2018.
In Cubase or Studio One you can playback any MIDI File with selected Instrument.
Like any AUDIO Files in Reason, but I talk here explicit About MIDI Files.

The second missing ability (not really important) are to Zoom Rack View (one Rack-Row as Full-View).
When I spend some long time for editing a Sound in RE I’ll like to Zoom the View of it.
I was create some ScreenShoot to express what I mean approximately.
The lower left corner should just demonstrate my imagination with MIDI Preview.

Thank you and I’m really happy to be here :)

KORG O1/WproX was my first Love (until I had an affair with Roland XV-88)

Welcome to Propellerhead land...

And good luck by getting those issues solved in the next 10 years... :tu:

Propellerheads whenever the issue of scaling is concerned and brought up, stick their head in the sand and make excuses about it, it's a problem they can't fix due to it's 18 years of legacy code.

They will have to bite the bullet sooner or later and code a new version of Reason within a fully scalable framework and abandon the rack concept from how it currently is now. The logical choice would be to move to a Node based rack system, similar to how a few other daws have gone but retaining the I/O connectivity that the current instruments have. This way both legacy instruments can be used as well as providing a platform that isn't inherently limited by the daw itself, providing a unilateral system between both Rack Extensions and VST instruments within the same environment seamlessly and transparently into the future.

Previewing Midi Files, is quite probably floating around the bottom of the to do list / importance list, but ironically is one of those things most people don't ever request. Last I heard was that most people were fed up with Reason creating a Midi Out device when ever they dragged in Midi Note data... I dunno if they fixed that yet.

Just started out with Reason. Love much about it, but this is surely missing for me.

It was never broken. It simply was never implemented. And it still isn't.

With Reason 12 you can now have your devices that big. It's amazing. :)

However, your browser, transport bar and grey lines will also increase by 2.5X, leaving a smaller rectangle to view and manipulate your device. You can still see it though.

No midi preview yet. Yes, I realize that this thread is well over three years old now. And yes, it is a real workflow killer to do it the way you have posted. But it is still not part of the browser.

They have however, added Rex file preview. They took it away, and then added it back in Reason 12 to the browser.
