What is medieval in regard to the music? It sounds definitely cinematic 21st century, pretty far away from the middle ages and very close to Hollywood...; - )

Not only is the music not medieval, but I don’t quite get the purpose of the video. Did you model the objects? Is this a modeling demo reel for a documentary on medieval fortresses? The lighting and animation are nothing remarkable, so I assume you aren’t trying to promote that.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

If the purpose is this:
Then it raises more questions than it answers. What exactly does your channel offer? I can't answer that from watching the video. Maybe 3D modeling for war games?deastman wrote: Hi, I made a short video to introduce my youtube channel.

The 3D models are virtual reconstructions of medieval castles that actually did exist in the late middle ages.
The music is trailer music, yes it is intentionally "hollywood"-inspired.
I am trying to promote the virtual reconstructions of these castles and the medieval stuff related to them.

The aim of my channel is mainly to present the Middle Ages (and its related period, Renaissance) with its culture, architecture and music, possibly in a "cinematic" way. Granted not all of my music written for orchestra is themed in a medieval way. But that is rather more an exception than a rule.Vortifex wrote:If a channel is to be successful it should be focused on a particular thing, or it should cover different things in a unique/particular way, so that subscribers know what kind of content to expect. I had a quick look at your channel and some of the music is very nice, but it's not all medieval music.
Unless you're going to focus specifically on medieval music and themes I'd suggest a rebrand, and maybe present your channel under your own name (or an assumed artist name) and have each piece of music titled according to theme/genre, similar to how Adrian Zeigler does it.
What I do offer:
* Medieval Virtual Reconstructions of various architecture.
* Medieval-inspired music, not neccessarily medieval music from the time of the middle ages, written in the middle ages, but music inspired by the time. This includes cinematic music as well, suitable for medieval-related movies.
* Art, either from the middle ages or medieval-inspired art (including but not limited to Visual Effects).

If you can formulate that in 1 sentence of about 10 words or so, you have your high concept. Then you know how to market your channel.mediumaevum wrote:Thanks for the critique. To answer the questions:

I think right now, you haven't really thought about what the selling point is. OK, it's medieval (or medieval-inspired) art of various types. What's the unifying thing (besides being medieval and made by you? Is this content for history buffs, artists, GoT fans, ...?
If you don't know what you are offering and who you are targeting, it's going to be very difficult to establish yourself on YT.

Your video needs to explain all of that. Simply showing some models with a trailer music bed doesn’t convey any part of your message.mediumaevum wrote:The aim of my channel is mainly to present the Middle Ages (and its related period, Renaissance) with its culture, architecture and music, possibly in a "cinematic" way. Geeky-medieval stuff served with medieval video game-related music.sjm wrote:If you can formulate that in 1 sentence of about 10 words or so, you have your high concept. Then you know how to market your channel.mediumaevum wrote:Thanks for the critique. To answer the questions:

That's 10 words for my concept.
My visual reconstructions is of interest for historians and medieval archaeologists but also people who simply has a general interest in 'What did this castle look like?' and 'How did this crossbow-arrow actually work?'.
As far as my music goes, I hope it is of interests for people who just like to listen to music from Game of Thrones and medieval-related video games (like Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis etc.)
