I'm looking for simple, oldschool sample libraries, maybe something like this:

- .wav files only
- round robin, lot's of velocities, one sample per key, halion or Kontakt formats are NOT needed
- lots of acoustic and electric instruments covered, organs, electric pianos, harps, guitars etc.

Can you guys point to a direction where I can find something like this ? Preferably libraries that cover a lot at once ?

What do you mean by 'old school' sample libraries? I'm asking since, 'old school' libraries do not have stuff like round-robin or sample-per key. Old school libraries, as I understand the term, specialised in providing a sample set that took as little space as possible. That meant no-round robin and stretching the key-zone with one sample as much as possible, all of which does not fit your requirement.

Conversely, round-robin and samples-per key is the domain of more modern sample libraries.

So what do you mean by 'old school' ?

The samples I get in my EMU X3 are all old-school, the real deal, no round-robin and no samples-per key. And no WAV files, but propriatory EMU format.

Thanks for chiming in. I wrote that things like round robin are not needed. (not written in bold letters) :)

Maybe something like soundfont libraries. They seem to be quite simple. There seems to be a lot on the internet but I wonder how trustworthy / legal they are.

plenty of stuff on freesound.org if you use their search bar (try "instrument" or "guitar" or whatever), it's all creative commons.

also snes soundfonts are great, under 100kb, and some have lots of interesting sounds.

this site has a lot of retro gaming inspired soundfonts as well, which are generally very simple and lo-fi.

of course, you can always take a portable recorder (or phone) into a second hand music store and discreetly sample a few notes of their odds and ends.

Hmm, the 'not' wasn't there in the original post...or maybe I missed it...Anyway... :)
If you can live without WAV files, and are on PC, then sourcing EMU X3 would be one way to go. It's full of those sounds, meticulously programmed too.

Roland's JV1080 plugin also has such simple samples, and lots of them. But obviously these are clocked to the plugin itself.

VSCO2 community might do the trick for orchestral. Check the advanced user partway down the page for the samples. Just delete the round robins for the shorts.
