I have a hardware DX7-IID and I'd like to use Dexed as a librarian for it (if anyone has a better suggestion, be my guest...).
In Dexed, I'd like to create a CART (or many CARTS) that includes my favorite patches from various different Sysex libraries. How is this done exactly (and can it be done?)?

That doesn't answer my question! I know you can move patches around in a CART (or a "bank") but how can I grab patches from other various Sysex files into ONE "favorites" cart/bank? I don't get how you do this, if it's even possible.

Yes, of course that it is possible.
It is even very easy.
For you (and anybody who would be interested) I just made a "MyFav000.syx".
It can be used as a Init bank... it contains the same preset in all its slots (the famous "EPiano 1", but it could have been any other one for the purpose which interests us for the moment).
Take this file "MyFav000.syx" from here:

Now open Dexed.
At the bottom left of Dexed, there is a green button named "Cart". Click it.
Now at the bottom left of Dexed, there is a green button named "Show Dir". Click it. It opens the directory where the Sysex files are.
Open the directory named "Cartridges". Put the file "MyFav000.syx" in this directory (not in a subdirectory, for the simplicity of the next explanations).
Now duplicate this file "MyFav000.syx" to as many clones as you want, to have "MyFav001.syx", "MyFav002.syx", "MyFav003.syx", "MyFav004.syx", "MyFav005.syx", "MyFav006.syx", "MyFav007.syx", "MyFav008.syx", "MyFav009.syx", "MyFav010.syx", "MyFav011.syx", "MyFav012.syx", etc. As long as you want.
Then move the file "MyFav000.syx" (the one you had downloaded above) to a safe place to be sure that you'll never alter it by mistake.
First, do that and come back and I'll continue the explanations within the next hours (it is currently 0:40 in the night in France, I'll stay online until 1:30 or 2:00 then I'll go to bed and come back online 12 hours after).
I'll explain you that in a very detailed way so that nobody can't make any mistake if it is followed carefully.
It is very easy in fact, but of course a bit longer to explain than to do.
So, first do the first steps above then come back to tell that you are ready for the next step which will explain the procedure (extremely easy, I repeat).
It is even very easy.
For you (and anybody who would be interested) I just made a "MyFav000.syx".

Now you just have to do drag 'n' drop from the horizontal table at the bottom to the vertical table at the rightmost side:
DON'T DO ANY ERROR BECAUSE THE CHANGES ON THE DISK ARE IMMEDIATE !
Let's keep on with the other sysex file from which we wanted to save again two presets as favorites.
We browse the tree to find "Dexed_cart_1.0\Jezreel\BASS--04.SYX" (don't click on it !):
Double click on it:
The content of this sysex is now here:
Remember that the horizontal table which is at the bottom is always the currently loaded sysex.
Now, we are ready to copy some of the presets from this sysex to the "MyFav001.syx" file.

It would be nice if Pascal accepted to add a button (or a little local menu) to validate a change on the vertical table to confirm the operation in order to prevent any fatal error for a sysex file.

During these holydays i've took all my ooold patches for the FB01 (using the Atari emulator to send the sysex!) and converted them for Dexed.
And then you already have made this tutorial to sort them! THANKS
I'd liked more something like a right click or click+ctrl to open a file in the "vertical table"... anyway, it works

I just got some DX7 and TX81Z .syx files here but they can't be loaded on DeXed.
Is there any way to fix that?

Has anyone attempted to load (or somehow convert) the .DXX file format once used by the CX5M Music Computer (with the YRM-103 or YRM-304 "DX7 Voicing Program" ROM cartridge) to hold 32/48-voice "banks" of DX-7 voices? Perhaps they are just sysex files in disguise?
I'll try to attach a .DXX file (zipped, to please the Forum uploader) with this Reply so someone using Dexed can give it a whirl and let everyone else know. Because I have hundreds, if not thousands, of these files collected over the past 35 years!
