Anyone familiar or have firsthand experience with the sample disks from Discoverysound?
http://www.discoverysound.com
The titles look intriguing, but none of the streaming audio links work so I am a bit puzzled on the sound quality, etc.

Hi again.
I got my CD's:
Okinawa Tradition
The Legend of China
Shamisen
Spirits from Ainu
In general recordings are not made up close but sounds more like 1-3 meters away from mic. So sounds have a little ambience which is ok. Many of the files are MONO but for some odd reason made into stereo files which was a bit anoying since it takes more memory in samplers. It's not a big problem, i just save the left side as a mono wav. file, took about 2 hours to finish the Spirits from Ainu into MONO files where needed.
Another CD which needs same attention is The Legend of China and that one will take me a long time since the library is HUGE.
The quality of the sounds is good but not "Spectrasonic" good. In short its good value for the money if you need authentic sounds with atmosphere and decent sound.
This little package will keep me busy for months

Are these mostly phrases?
I am interested in Legend of China. Are the percussion single hit wavs or loops? Did you get the old audio cd version or new various version sample cd version?

vtd:
I'm at work now, so this is from my memory.
Regarding phrases, i think its about even, but i'll let you know when i get back from work.
I got the Old Cover version (many small pictures) instead of the new with chinese flag.
2 CD's
Nr. 1 CD
Each category has Loop & Phrases
I forgot the name of the category's but there is 4
On the CD you will find a BIG file packed with zip. This file holds all the single shots of instruments.
Nr. 2 CD
62 Audio files which i had to open with Win XP Multiemedieplayer and save to music library in wma format. After that i converted all of them to wav
