Yes given to a body of industry players. I'm not asking for the future. I'm asking for right now. What makes VST 3 better than VST 2 RIGHT NOW?poleda wrote:It's not my job to convince you of the future, sorry.wagtunes wrote:That tells me nothing about the advantages. Does VST 3 work better? Absolutely. Some major players and a LOT of minor players have survived for 10 years already. They can do so for 10 more years at the very least.poleda wrote:Do you truly think a company can survive the future without eventually adopting VST3?

Industry standard support and maintenance is pretty much the core of any software's longevity and survival.wagtunes wrote:
Give me something tangible like that in regard to VST 3 vs VST 2.
It's time to set the flux capacitor to 2018, bye bye VST2 and 32 bit.

You're laughable, man. Almost sound like a Steinberg shill
Steinberg does shit support btw and have done fu.k all to improve VST3's pain points.

I guess we'll see what the future holds, especially after they drop support for VST2.EvilDragon wrote:Absolutely. Some major players and a LOT of minor players have survived for 10 years already. You know the first sign of a personal attack usually means the person is actually admitting defeat on their stance in a debate, argument or discussion. Just saying...

I'm not admitting any defeat. You didn't provide anything tangible to the discussion, except your crystal ball prophecies. Which can be as bad a guess as any.
But that your posts are prophetically laughable, that they are.

If Steinberg would release a modern, backwards compatible VST4 API that showed that they have learned from the clusterf##k they created with VST3 and would actually offer advanced functionality for endusers and make life easier (instead of harder) for developers (who already have their plates full to the brim), I'm sure the adoption rate could actually be quite good.
Just dropping VST2 support won't make VST3 any better or more useful to the enduser.
I personally so far haven't found a single benefit to using VST3 over VST2 in any of my hosts.
VST2 doesn't actually need to be "supported" it already works just fine.
VST3 is not anything like "the future", it's mostly a failed attempt to be clever - How can they even create a plugin API that can't output proper Midi?
And if you deliver a failed product and then try to pressure people into actually using it, it's an additional tick on the fail-meter, not a solution.
Cheers,
Tom

Because of the fact that VST3 is a colossal failure and its name alone leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths. VST4 needs to happen.EvilDragon wrote:VST4 would just complicate things much more than they already are...
VST4 has to be backwards compatible with earlier versions including both VST2 and 3. It shouldn’t break things that developers have already learned over the years, or any plugins that worked before and should instead introduce new features/innovations whilst guaranteeing back compat.

VST2 and VST3 are so different in essence I can't really see how VST4 could be backwards compatible to both...
But yes. Thomas raised some very good points. VST2 doesn't need "support" (Steinberg's shit at it anyways) because it already works great.

is there anywhere i can listen to your fantastic 64bit vst3 music to convince me of this? come on, lets hear it.....
It's like explaining to the guy that still licks the stamps and pays their bills by mail, then waits for the post office to do their magic. Meanwhile, the rest of the world has moved to on-line payments.
The future looks bright for the Internet (VST3), as for the Post Office (VST2), it's looking a little outdated.

I leave this endless discussion with my final "prediction" of the future for VST...
