Getting 4 inch or 5 inch monitors

I want to pick a new pair of monitors. However I can't decide if I should go for a 5 inch pair (Dynaudio was my first choice) or a 4 inch pair (something like Fostex). I write and mix dance music however I don't care too much about bass. I live in an apartment so I don't want to annoy all my neighbors.
Previously I had a pair of KRK Rokit but 6 inch is too much for small home studios.

Fantastic! I hope this new direction will be wholeheartedly embraced by the local car-owning teens that I have to share roads with.Dúnedain wrote:I write and mix dance music however I don't care too much about bass.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Just dropping in to say that this is great of you. We need more of that kind of attitude on this world. People just care less and less about what they do to others.Dúnedain wrote:I write and mix dance music however I don't care too much about bass. Get some smaller (bellow 5") EVE's or Genelec's.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

I would go for the Genelec SAM series, maybe the 8330. They are small and they have internal EQ that coupled with their software allows for correcting some of the problems in a room.

It definitely depends on your budget. Overall, you're going to get a wider frequency response from larger monitors. You'll also usually get better stereo imaging. Of course, its a lot more important to assess the quality of a monitor based on how its engineered more so over its size. Size can significantly vary even with monitors that have the same sized drivers.
If you're on a budget, I'd personally recommend the PreSonus Eris E5. Although it is a 5-inch monitor, its design is more slim and compact than most 5-inch monitors. It also sounds like you're dealing with a small room, the Eris E5 has acoustic control settings that can help you tune the frequency response to something more suitable for your room. I'd recommend checking out the review of these monitors here: https://www.audiogearz.com/presonus-eris-e5/

Given your quandary I’d go for the 4” and subpack combo and/or headphones.
