ive been looking for non-synthesized, but recorded sounds of rain, as pure as possible, without thudnerstorms, birds, car traffic, human noises...the more pure the better....

i need it to be in GOOD stereo...is this findable ?

here's a great link someone gave me, I was looking for the sound of a draw bridge on a castle opening (it will be in my next song I'm working on now) I had to use some different chain samples and I found one of rocks sliding against each other to construct my sound..because it's a loop and it's little inconsistant it sounds like a big old stone wheel turning it came out awesome.

Some of these you might have to change the sample rate and such but you'll get tons of short waves.

Send me a hand-held digital sampler really quick and I'll get them for you. Would a twister or three ruin things?

www.sounddogs.com is excellent! I've bought from them several times in the past. Searching on rain gave me 1210 hits, so I'm sure you'll find what you need. Very reasonable prices. Like $2-$3 for short 15 second samples, and like $8 or so for 2-3 minute samples. All of EXCELLENT quality, from my experience. You can even buy sections of samples at reduced rates, so if you wanted the first 30 seconds of a 3 minute sample, you can buy just that portion.

Ah! If only I could do that. :-) A proper mic is on the wish list but will probably have to wait for next year.

BTW, thanks to everyone who has links. I'm interested in this kind of sound too, which is why I read the thread. *bow*

Krim, for some reason the downwind channel always sounds wrong on that sample.

I could make some awesome ones if it wasn't for living 10' from a very busy street...if I wanted too I could get some good harleys, they're will probably be a ride this fall, maybe I'll tape...sometimes they go 30 minutes long. Also sirens, we're right on the route to the hospital.

you can find some decent freebies online (through yahoo) if you search well enough.. but yeah it does take awhile :(

I did a song with a lot of rain samples.. well actually it was one sample of rain with some thunder/rain samples..

a trick I found to making thick rain 'sequences' (even with mono samples) is to take a single sample thats a few seconds long.. play the same sample a few millisecond later in time. then layer it by playing the same initial rain sample in a slightly lower note (say A# or B from C). and adjust the levels to taste (nothing dramatic)

I've found that since rainfall is random anyways, its easy to make believable sets through just layering as mentioned..

thanks people ! i appreciate the tips, now lets check them all out one by one
