Apple just wants to control everything, I'm surprised they even allow third party devs like us on their machines in the first place!

yes. And add to this that they seem to be preparing their system to run on their own processor.whyterabbyt wrote:No. They're locking down, not opening up.

I wonder if they're going to break Metal every 12 months like they do AU.

wouldn't it be more more likely that those developers just drop the mac support and make their applications windows only or windows-and-linux?Guillaume Piolat wrote:The more particular and non-standard it is to develop for them, the more developers will make it Apple-only.

I don't think having to write yet-another-wrapper for some new API is necessarily a huge deal, but deprecation of otherwise perfectly reasonable hardware is arguably a dick move.
edit: I'd like to add that I personally think OpenGL is a terrible API that only has one killer feature: it works.

MS has another way of deprecating old API's: New hardware requires new APIs and old APIs do not support newer hardware ( I've learnt it the hard way while trying to figure out why BluetoothFindFirstDevice does not return low energy bluetooth devices)

I hope and expect this "ARM desktop" narrative goes bust. Save $30 on a CPU cost and lose $50 on software upgrades, bad economy for everyone.waltercruz wrote:yes.
