Symphobia is my favorite orchestral library simply because it's simple to use and it has all those articulations and effects
which other libraries don't have.
It was made primarily for cinematic work and people who made it completely understand the needs and approaches
of people who are into that genre of music. You just want to start your DAW, insert Kontakt and start banging with your
sound library. That's the approach of Symphobia. There's no difference from me plugging my guitar into amp and playing.
On the other hand with other sound libraries after you go through them thoroughly, the first thing you need to do with them
if you want to be productive is to create templates for them in your DAW.
So, you open your teamplate and wait for everything to load up and then you start creating music and you just have
lined up instruments.
However, not everyone is good with arrangements and people are struggling to use proper instruments,
to use them at proper octaves and to combine different instruments to catch the mood and the right sound.
That's where Symphobia's patches step in with full arrangements and certain instruments combined in certain octaves, etc.
So, you don't have to worry about arrangement, everything is already there, you just start banging notes and making music.
That's why Symphobia for solo instruments is crap, it should be used as full orchestra, that's where it shines.
Then, when you use something as full orchestra you don't need insane number of round robins and insane number
of velocity layers and THAT'S WHY Symphobia doesn't have them.
That's another problem of other sound libraries, they have many round robins and many velocity layers and when you start
loading up a crap load of instruments and different articulations you need gigabytes and gigabytes of RAM, while Symphobia
was running fine even when I had WinXP and 3GB or RAM.
People who made Symphobia knew EXACTLY what were they doing and to what extent to sample instruments
and how to make patches and multipatches.
The only thing which people need to understand about Symphobia is that it shines when you use full orchestra.
If someone thinks that by getting Symphobia he'll get some good violins and be able to compose chamber music,
he'll be disappointed, that's NOT how Symphobia should be used, that's not its purpose.
Its purpose is to take full orchestra and bang with it.

Musical sampling and performance samples got kinda the same vibe w/o the fx. Just load up one patch and bam... full strings or brass ensemble right there and dont need keyswitches or any of that shit. Just play and it sounds p good. Symphobia is all bout the fx imo.

I just bought Symphobia I from NI and can't extract the download. The instructions recommend using 7-zip, but I gives me an error "Can not open file as archive." I'm wondering if anyone else ran into this?
So don't be an idiot like me and follow the NI instructions for installing this. You need to register the SN at Projectsam and use their downloader app. smh

So SAM's downloader worked for you? Gotta try that. The file I got from NI is more corrupt than Vladimir PutinSpin Boyz wrote:I just bought Symphobia I from NI and can't extract the download. i bought symphobia 1 but sadly had only 1 hour to try till the weekend, it is really a great sound, wow, i didnt test it yet to layer, i wanna use it for some dark ambient stuff with effected orchestra and tune down some instruments, also for rap&hip hop beats, so they dont sound too cheap/synthlike, thats why i wanted a big bang sound
.
sadly the playable instruments are not really many and i think albion and/or VSL would be better? for this? with the SE 1-4 price atm it might be nicer, but i think those would be too dedicated then, here in symphobia i could get more subinstruments and less tweaking.
still on the fence if i grab 2 and lumina cause i never saw em for 50% off....

Symphobia 1 has very few single playable instruments, and no legatos at all. Those are in S2 and S3, both single instruments and combos of 2 or 3. They're designed as featured solo instruments to complement the ensembles (just check the website for a list of whats covered). If you want to write more detailed orchestral stuff, writing for each instrument, I'd recommend a more conventional library - VSL, Spitfire, CineSamples, AudioBro etc.
