I cant see a way to selectively update to V10, I can update just the ones in my WUP but can't leave the ones I dont alone. Whats the point in that ?

Yeah, really just looks like some minor compatibility updates to a few plugins.robotmonkey wrote:Really can't see how this update warrants a new major version. Seems that pretty much nothing is updated except the version number.
But kudos to Waves for really hammering home the point that all major/minor version numbering schemes are completely arbitrary.

There is an FAQ where you'd expect to see this but...it's not there.LeVzi wrote:I cant see a way to selectively update to V10, I can update just the ones in my WUP but can't leave the ones I dont alone. Whats the point in that ?

Reading between the lines, there is now an offline V9 installer. I assume the deal is: install your V9s first; run WavesCentral and only select the plugins for which you have a V10 licence and it (hopefully) leaves the others alone. I have no idea whether this works but it probably makes sense to grab the V9 installer and keep a copy.

Let's celebrate Waves' 25th Anniversary!
I was thinking... IF I would like to sell my Waves plugins (listed below) how much $$$ would I get? The license transfer fee is 5% of MSRP ($10 min and $150 max) and since half of my plugins'/bundles' WUP has expired I would have to renew them all for $225
So I'd have to pay $225 + all the transfer fees ($499,60) = $725
And little bit about second hand pricing: single plugins go for $10 - $20 (no one would pay more) and bundles go for $40 - $150 (Abbey Road).
So if I'm lucky and manage to sell them all I would get about $950 BUT since I've already paid about $725 for the WUPs and transfer fees it means that I would get about $225 (plus I would have to pay the PayPal fees everytime I sell one plugin or a bundle)

Optimal number of audio plugins is one more than you currently have.

Exactly. At a minimum, my "wish list" for a new full version number would include:db3 wrote:I'm amazed v10 didn't come with a complete GUI rework across all plugins including mac retina compatibility.
- new, clean GUI (with Retina compatibility, as you mention)
- resizable plugin windows (for those of us without 20/20 perfect vision)

So far the best thing about v10 for me is, that all my trial periods have been reset

Well, as expected the update was a f**k-up. Installed those plugins I had a V10 license for, Waves Central left the V9 VST3 plugins in place but removed the V9 VST plugins (which are the ones my projects had been using). So now I've got to remove ALL the V9 plugins (to clear the mess out) and re-install just those ones using a 3GB offline installer.
Nice.

Just tried this, but results slightly different on my end - LOLFunkybot's Evil Twin wrote:The process I followed was cumbersome but worked. Basically:waltercruz wrote:Waves Central should handle that, don't?cprompt wrote:
From the FAQ:
V9 and V10 can run on the same system, as long as you don't install two versions (V9 and V10) of the same plugin. Each plugin should only be installed in either V9 or V10.
For example: Version 9 of J37 Tape and version 10 of Torque can run on the same system. Version 9 of H-Reverb and version 10 of H-Reverb can't.
1. Go to the Waves v10 page
2. There's a link there to "upgrade" your licenses or something - follow that
3. Log into your account on the Waves site
4. Select the licenses to update and follow the steps - once updated...
5. Install the newest version of Waves Central and run it once installed
6. Go to the Install option - you'll see your v10 plugins - install those
7. There will be some message somewhere about needing to update your licenses - update the licenses
8. Start your DAW
Waves Central shows that I have V10 licences for products still in WUP & 9.2.0 licences for products out of WUP.
Logic says that there is no license for the products that are out of WUP.
Logic's Plugin Manager shows installed version for all Waves products as 9.2.0.
Time to restore some directories from backup!

this is what I expected from a 'major' update.db3 wrote:I'm amazed v10 didn't come with a complete GUI rework across all plugins including mac retina compatibility.

Updating all my plugins from v.9 to v.10 will cost me $1544.40.
I think that only way the $225 cap works is when you activated all your plugins on the same day.
I think I'll pass.

You have to check 'I hereby confirm that I run all plugins on a single machine'

I could be wrong, but I think they have changed that and certainly for me possibly make it better.krabbencutter wrote:You have to check 'I hereby confirm that I run all plugins on a single machine'

I checked. When I include the plugins that still have WUP then I have to pay 1554.40. But when I only select the plugins with expired WUP and no overlapping plugins then it will be capped at $225. I have to say that it's reasonable.
Many Waves plugins I use a lot and it's been 6 years since the last update.
