i like energyXT although i don't use it often enough. why? because of all the not-so-obvious things to do, longer learning curve and not-so-clear GUI.
however, i say it again, i like energyXT (very much).
and i have a beard, too.

I didn't vote, but I do use eXT as my main host
Oh, and feel free to ask q's at the forum about different eXT setups or share some presets if you are past that stage already
cheers

I've answered yes - I switched to Tracktion from Cubase about a year ago and was delighted with the workflow and my productivity quadrupled at the very least. I registered EnergyXT not long after and used it mainly from within T, I never really got to grips with the standalone and had some problems with the ASIO drivers for my soundcard (DSP24v) I was running 98 se up until about a month ago when I took the plunge and went for XP with the new ESI drivers.
By then eXT sequencer had developed to the point where I thought - lets give it ago! What can I say? the only time I've booted Tracktion in the last 4 weeks is to master tracks (Fade in, Fade out, EQ, compress and limit), and this is probably due to my lack of knowledge of other aspects of eXT.
Once I had completed the first track I found the workflow using the sequencer to be at least as good as Tracktion. I'm not into mixers thanks to T so the layout of the seq is ideal, but the midi mangling capabilities of eXT really blew me away and I love the groove comp. Stability, I'm using the latest beta and have only had one lock up when I was really pushing the cpu.
I will continue to support T's development as I'm interested to see where that goes, but I'd just like to thank Jorgen for eXT - I sometimes feel a little guilty using it - I mean all this power for $39.
regards
Trevor

i'm a cubase user since 1995. i'm _very_ happy with eXT, but must admit i haven't used it as standalone yet. afraid to end up needing some Cubase feature. but i suppose there's eXT things Cubase can't do. so i'm feeling a little guilty...

I have to admit, the only thing I really miss about eXT, compared to other hosts, is that most higher-end hosts give you a central mixer of sorts with 3-band EQ on each channel, Send channels and built-in effects that are easily slipped in.
I find myself hunting around for lots of freeware added extras which can clutter the interface a bit, especially if you have 8 output channels, each with their own EQ VSTs, compressors, reverb etc.
I probably need to just work out a little more about eXT as there's doubtless shortcuts in there, but I'm more than happy doing complete compositions within the stand-alone version.

As far as production in general goes I'm still very much the newbie, so my opinions probably won't mean much... but I'd have to say that as a host, eXT is a dream come true to me personally. I've tried out some other hprograms that my friends were using (Cubase SX, Buzz, FL), but I found that I had gripes about each of them.
....And then I found eXT
Its pretty much everything I wanted in a host, and more. GOD, I LOVE THIS PROGRAM. For me its only "weakness" is its sparse documentation, which for a neophyte like me is crucial. But seeing how its updated so often, this isn't too surprising... and I wish the manual would define some of the technical jargon sometimes (for complete and utter production newbies), but hey you can't have everything
I'm struggling along though, and Nicfit's tutorials and such have been really helpful (thanks NF!) Anyway, I think I'm talking out of my ass here, so my point is this: if eXT was a girl, I'd marry her. I think.
BTW, I kinda get the feeling that eXT is more geared towards users that are cross-grading from another host, or more interested in using it as a VST within their host. Is it just me?

EnergyXT is the ONLY host that does what YOU want it to do, and not the other way around..sentoso wrote: BTW, I kinda get the feeling that eXT is more geared towards users that are cross-grading from another host, or more interested in using it as a VST within their host. Is it just me?
If you wanna see firsthand what other ppl do with it, check eXT's 'Presets' thread. From a sample mangler to FX morpher to outright full-blown sequencer with automation envelopes assignable to any VST parameter, eXT can do it all.
And he's STILL not done yet..

EnergyXT I say yes can replace anything as a host, because it is a host! You can add what ever you need to it to get the results you need. XT's beauty is that it adapts to you and your needs, not the how do I do this with this approach of other sequencers.

At this time I'm still using eXT as a VSTi in my host, XT Standalone. There are too many features in my host to give up...eXT is a great plugin for layering synths and fx, but it can't replace XT Standalone as my main host yet...just a few more features missing before I can commit(aren't there always). I very happy with the development rate, so I have no doubt that someday I be able to get by with what's available...but till then I'll just continue to use eXT as a plugin in my main host, XT Standalone.
