I heard part of this on the radio the other day, was really impressed.
At least stick around for the upright-bass-through-auto-wah part. But the whole thing is pretty epic.

Yes. Impressive. Fun to listen to.
How nice to hear something made recently that is actually interesting.

Turns out, they were playing the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday.
I've heard a lot of interesting new acts on KCRW recently. They post their playlists online, and I always mean to look them up but I usually forget.
KCRW is a an NPR affiliate but they have an all-music streaming channel. http://www.kcrw.com/music/shows/eclectic24
I've heard a lot of stuff I dig, like Chicano Batman, Thundercat, Angelique Kidjo, Childish Gambino and St. Vincent. I don't know if I would have heard that stuff else where. At least not all in one place. Not all of that is new but it's mostly new to me.

OK I have dipped into her stuff a few times because she looks interesting and obviously is talented but always found it too poppy and bland - where should I start for something jazzier or more arty?justin3am wrote:St. Vincent.

Certainly poppy but I wouldn't say bland. Her compositions are always a little discordant or off-kilter. Kinda reminds me of David Byrne at times (in fact, they have collaborated). I can't think of anything she's done that could be categorized as Jazzy. I should have clarified, that the artists listed don't have much overlap, stylistically, they are just somethings I've been enjoying lately.aMUSEd wrote:OK I have dipped into her stuff a few times because she looks interesting and obviously is talented but always found it too poppy and bland - where should I start for something jazzier or more arty?justin3am wrote:St. Vincent.

Just in case someone feels the need
I5s normally a good show, does go off on tangents, so a mixed bag.
