I am always making my own single shots and loops of all genres and giving them to friends or whoever else wants them. I am constantly told that i should go into the business, but I have no idea how.

So, heres my question: How do you get your foot in the door?

I'd imagine you have two routes:

1. Try to get it release with one of the big boys. I suppose this would involve sending them demo's and generally harrassing them!

2. Release it yourself. You would then either set up distribution with a big boy, or do a loan soldier. This is likely to be your biggest decision I'd think. If you just want to make a bit of extra cash, then set up a site and start offering free samples as demo material for your commerical CD. If you plan to make any serious amount of money then i guess you have to start a company and all that it entails. A good start would be getting familar with shops, distributors and other developers and companies.

Probably quite a risky venture, but if you're work is good enough then it should do well given half a chance. Question is though, how good are you? :D How does your work compare to whats out there are present? How marketable is it? 'Wired' is a pile of poo... but highly marketable poo! Not that the market needs another Wired, just using it as an example.

My mates and i think that it would be very marketable.

Sweet, what type of sounds do you make? I know you said loops and hits, but thats quite broad. Are they more like commerical drum and percussion sounds, or a little more edgy? Do you offer any freebies i can hear? Reason i ask is that I do a bit of this myself and would be happy to give you some freeback.

Whenever i do not necesarily (good god, dyslexia) want to create a song, I very often just make Dn'B beats, but I'm handy at house and low tempo/funky breaks as well. As for single shots, i create kicks and snares by layering as well as using apps like "Beatcreater", etc.

I'm thinking of just loading all my best single shots and loops into one big audio file and loading it on my www.7161.com page in a high-quality mp3. I'll announce it if i do.

Cool, I'll be interested to have a wee butchers. It seems there are quite a few House and Jungle products out already, but they are popular genres and Im sure if your product were original it would be ok. The fact that you're creating stuff from scratch has to bode well. Most of the current sample CD's in these genres are little more than some second rate producers library of old shite. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, just not very forward thinking. House Essentials was a good sample CD, loads of loops and hits all with a very certain character. Unfortunately they all sounded a little out of time and sound like they were doing the rounds in about 1993 - 94.

Anyways, keep us posted fella. Im always on the look out for a few new drums to tart around with. :)
