I heard a few times that Steinberg sometimes do a sale on Cubase or it's upgrades in the Summer, is this true ? Has it happened at all ? If so , how much discount did they offer ? I'd like to upgrade but I am not paying nearly 300 quid for it. Half price is worth it.

Around July-august, usually 40% off update/upgrade, not the full version.

I use these sales to buy .5 updates, then wait to next major release to register to get the next version for free.

I would love to upgrade. But since version 8 and up it's no longer possible to use a high contrast windows theme. This is important to me as I'm visually impaired. Steinberg will NOT make it possible to use a high contrast theme. Only aero themes. So I'll have to stay with version 7.5 .

Yea, it's somewhat silly. The DAW will only work in an aero theme. So even if you're not visually impaired and need a high contrast theme you can not use any other theme but the aero theme(s). It's like having a walkman that can only play maxwell tapes.handed wrote:That is a bummer to hear! They should definitely allow a high contrast theme. I’d be more likely to buy it then too.

Good deal. I wasn’t sure I’d ever update past 8.5, but here we go. Now I’m hoping I know where my dumb little USB key is.

I'm a little confused. What do you mean by aero theme? I have Cubase 7 and am thinking of upgrading to 9.5 because of the sale.
When I installed Cubase 7, I didn't customize any of the look at all. Whatever popped up, that's what I'm using. Are you saying Cubase 9.5 doesn't have the same look and is harder to see? As there is no demo, I want to make sure I can see everything before I buy it.

Up to version 7.5 you can go with any windows theme. But from version 8 and up you can only run it with an aero theme. I don't know about windows 7 and 8. But in Windows 10 the standard theme is an aero theme. If you use a high contrast theme the DAW will tell you it can't run on that thtteme. It doesn't support high contrast themes - or any other non-aero themes.wagtunes wrote:I'm a little confused. What do you mean by aero theme? I've sent Steinberg several mails about this. Since it's important to me as being visually impaired. But so far there's no hope for the future.

This is a shame! They should really support high contrast for those who need it. Have you tried to invoke the topic in their forums?
For the update, I received an email about it so I did it with the discount. I activated it however because I wanted to use the media browser and Flux, the new wavetable synth which is a great synth
They changed the on screen keys. It's not part of the floating transport anymore. It doesn't show the pressed keys however!

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Well, it appears that I'm using an aero theme, the default one. So I don't understand what the difference is between that and a non aero theme. And I don't have the best eyes in the world either.sfd wrote:Up to version 7.5 you can go with any windows theme. But from version 8 and up you can only run it with an aero theme. Well, I need dark background and bright fonts. I With an ordinary aero theme the menu in the DAW is white.wagtunes wrote:Well, it appears that I'm using an aero theme, the default one. Give it a try. Chaknge to a hight contrast theme with a dark background. Then try to open your DAW. Any version from 8 and up. And you'll see what it'll tell you.

Oh I'm sure it won't work. I was just wondering what the difference between the aero and non aero themes are visually. Honestly, even when I was on XP, which didn't yet have aero, I don't see any visual difference between it and what I have now. Maybe I'm just used to it.sfd wrote:Well, I need dark background and bright fonts. Anyway, that is a problem for those visually impaired. Not sure why Steinberg did this.
