Buying a Cubase 9.5 upgrade now to benefit of the 10 when is going to be released?

Hello,
To someone knowing how the grace period upgrade works for Cubase, that could help me here, please...
If I buy Cubase 9.5 upgrade now but I don't activate it until Cubase 10 grace period begins, will I be able to benefit of the next upgrade? The next problem is that I have already activated a 9.5 license on my e-licenser and I'm thinking the 9.5 upgrade license that I intend to buy will want to update an older version only, hence it may not work? Or it will do the trick?
Thank you!

Any upgrade you did will have replaced the old one on that eLicenser. The upgrade code or serial(whatever they call it) has info on what to upgrade, and look for that - and will replace that.
But if you have a eLicenser with a license not yet upgraded - I think you can do what you intended - on that eLicenser.
But you can always do the math of buying Cubase Elements + do Cubase Pro upgrade - and you are better off than buying new full license. But if having the soft eLicenser that code must be transferred to a eLicenser usb stick first.

I have Cubase 7.5.
I can update to v9.5 by July 16, 2018 for $199 -40% = $120 if I use the code "UPDATE18"
Regarding the Grace period My question is this. So I purchase Cubase 9.5 for $120 but do not activate it. The six weeks prior to the release of Cubase 10, I then activate the V9.5 and I will be entitled to Cubase 10 upon its release. Is this correct?
This means that I cannot use Cubase 9.5 until I activate it. Correct?

Hi Kalamata Kid,
Yes, is correct. This is how I upgraded from Cubase 8 Pro directly to Cubase 9.5 Pro. I bought the 8.5 upgrade during sale, I skipped version 9 and I have only activated it when the grace period for Cubase 9.5 started (too much waiting, I know!). So in your case there are no doubts, yes you can do that, I have already walked that path.
But in my case I already own Cubase 9.5 Pro and now I was thinking to get another "Update from Cubase Pro 9". If I remember well, when one is activating an upgrade, he will be asked to select the license he wants to upgrade on the e-licenser itself. This is how Steinberg is selling separate upgrades, from 9, from 8.5, 7 and so on: every upgrade type will require a certain existing license on the e-licenser and only that one can be upgraded, as lfm was noticing above.
Still I read somewhere here, on KVR, that there are people buying two upgrades during a sale: one to upgrade to the immediately following version and another one to upgrade further when the grace period will be announced. Is this true?

emanuelsj,
thanks for the info.
What would a typical Cubase 7.5 to V10 cost.
Just curious to see how much I will be saving.
For me Cubase 10 must adapt ARA2 for me to get it unless there is some other overwhelming new must have feature. So yes I would be taking a chance on my $120 investment, but then if V10 does not live up to my expectations, well I will at least have V9.5 to play with. So perhaps $120 will not be lost.

Well, I would say you're here at the right moment, because Steinberg is running a 40% off until June 16th. Just
CLICK HERE to check the discounted pricing. And this is also the reason I would be tempted to buy an upgrade now for the upcoming 10 but... still not 100% it will work in my case.
Good luck!

OK!
Updated to Cubase 9.5 from my 7.5
for $119.99
Very pleased with my decision.
Now,
I must not forget to activate it during the Cubase 10 grace period.
What if I forget and activate it after Cubase 10 is released?
On a side note:
I am taking a chance that Cubase will adapt ARA2 for Melodyne.

I wouldn't know what is happening if not activating the upgrade in time. It might be that if you activate it afterwards you will end up with a Cubase 9.5 license instead of a 10. But to be honest, I'm only guessing.
My strong suggestion would be to keep an eye on the musical news and activate the upgrade when the right time comes. If you have a subscription to a web retailer such as JRRshop, sweetwater, audiodeluxe or any other one, you will be notified about the grace period immediately. This is because they are still able to sell version 9.5 and get version 10 instead, so there is a lot of fuss around.
Also, I think newer versions (not 7.5 though) have the HUB window popping up automatically and notifying you about the latest updates and news. This would be a simple way of following the grace upgrade period.
You also have the option to subscribe to a music production facebook group, where we are sharing... musical news and things. Here's one I manage one I manage in case you're interested on such thing.
Anyway... congratulations once again and good luck using it as soon as possible!

Thanks for this thread, good call for me I think. 9.5 holds almost zero interest for me - I got slightly excited by Direct Offline Processing until I realized you couldn't save as a preset. Sigh. But I've heard rumours that 10 could well be a different animal.
There's so much wrong with Cubase right now, especially for template users - killer bugs and absurd gaps in functionality - I'm desperately hoping so. So buying and holding my upgrade licenses now makes sense.

Cubase 10 will likely be release in December but
my feeling is that this year it will be released earlier.

Last year it was surprisingly early, wasn't it? As I recall they got ahead of Black Friday.

Yeah, it was a mid November release. Is that early, I'm new to Cubase?noiseboyuk wrote:Last year it was surprisingly early, wasn't it? As I recall they got ahead of Black Friday.
To the OP, seems like a recipe for disappointment to buy a DAW today for features you hope they'll add in the next major release. The likelihood of you being disappointed is sky high. My biggest Cubase wishlist items would be better Remote Control of plugins via the Generic Remote (basically do it like Studio One where I can map my entire controller and assign every parameter to a plug-in) and ARA2.

Until last year, it was always the first Wednesday in December for several years. I guess they figured that people were all spent out after Black Friday and wanted to pull it ahead instead.
And you're right that in general its a very dubious policy to wait and hope, with the chances of disappointment stupidly high. However, I'm still going to go for it based on my shaky rumour that they really HAVE been listening to us template users, and a solution for this by far the thing I care about at this point.
I was reading the Steinberg bumph on the Grace period upgrade to 9.5 - https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/gr ... _info.html . The only thing that has given me pause is this

My situation is I have 3 licenses - 9.0 full, 8.5 full and 9 Elements, and I'm looking to get all 3 upgraded. I don't think the "once" above refers to only having one upgrade per customer, rather one upgrade per license. I wonder in fact does it mean you can only get one grace period in the life of any one license? And as a bonus thought... if 10 came out and it was poo, is it possible to hold on for another full year?! The text actually suggests this might be possible...Customers activating an older version of Cubase (from version 6) on October 18, 2017, or later, whereas a newer version is already available, receive from Steinberg once (!) a so-called free Grace Period update to activate the current version available to that time.
