RapidComposer Beta v3.6b1 is available!

This update has improved using slash chords and features an interesting suggestion from a new user: phrases can override the chord and scale. And lots of other improvements as well:

3.6Beta1 changes:
  • Phrases may have their own assigned chord and scale. You can override the master track chord and scale if you wish.
  • Slash/bass notes are displayed in the Quick Suggestion pop-up and Chord Palette
  • New setting: "Show 'History' For Phrases" (disabled by default). Even if displaying the history is enabled, it is not shown for phrases with no randomness.
  • New setting: "Maximum Chord Font Size On Master Track"
  • New setting: "Update Chord Slash Note When Voicing Is Set" (enabled by default)
  • Reworked phrase inspector UI (tabs added)
  • New option for Chord Generator to include the bass note in different octaves
  • Fixed sorting order for chords (11th and 13th were sorted before 6th, 7th, etc)
  • Bug fixes in the chord menu
This screenshot shows a phrase with its own chord, and the new Chord Generator option to add bass notes:

Hey , what does the field "Show=" do? (in the drum map control file)

I had an idea, if it isn't already implemented.. Would be nice to invoke the note range variation to a track based on the drum map used.

I am going through my percussion VST's and I have a ton instruments that have, sometimes, up to three ranges on the keyboard.

Would be nice to be able to range and transpose to a safe area of the keyboard range based on a map..

Hiding unused percussion notes would be good, but in the end it proved to be difficult to implement. It remains on the to-do list until the next attempt...

Hi Attila

thats great that now can add in chord generator bass too. for the percussion generator to have the note settings bass -1, bass -2, bass -3,bass -4 is very usefull too. maybe this can easy add

Hi magicmusic,
yes, it was easy to add ;)

BTW I was thinking about adding built-in humanizing to the Chord Generator because I do not like how it sounds, but that would be against the program concepts: a variation should be used for this purpose...

Was able to do some interesting polychord stuff with the new override chord feature. So much more flexibility here than having to use absolute notes, and keeping it as a phrase. This is also great for doing ostinatos, arppegiation and bass stuff that don't follow the chord progressions exactly.

Overriding the scale works as expected. So many possibilities.

Both these lend themselves to very easy and quick experimentation.

A couple suggestions:

1. Much like how the overridden chord is shown on the phrase, it would be useful info to also show the overridden scale.
2. It would be great for generators an option to decide what notes drives the generator. i.e. use only chord voicing/notes, use full scale notes. Obviously a chord generator would have no use for the scale. Maybe at the very least indicate which are used. If I have a chord generator, does it make any sense I can override the scale? I don't know, does it makes sens to arpegiate over a scale? Or use only chord notes in a melody? I can fake this by making custom scales and chords. But seems like just duplicate effort.

Now the overridden scale is also displayed above the phrase.

Yes, this is the plan. This cannot be done without loosing backward compatibility, so v4.0 will have this. If I could, I would start working on it right now, but I planned a last v3.X update for autumn.

BTW today the following was added for the rhythm to scroll it to the left or right:

Holly :o
looking great!
how about also allow Idea Tool via option/check box shift this slider randomly in selected division
and apply to the Rhythm Patterns then to the Generators? :hihi:

of course me again

i write down couple of notes that i think worth to mention/request ..
but since two weeks while obsessively working/testing things with Idea Tool
this is my major question:
i tried extend RC to my two monitors to get large comfortable working space but the result as in the picture
is this is bug or just a screen size limitation?
to me would great to have (even maybe optionally if there is logical reasons for size limit)

i should take a break a little i am all over the forum places :D

It was a bug, which was fixed today :)
I am testing the program using two monitors all day, and fixed a few issues.
The new beta will be available tomorrow (Saturday) then I will disappear for a week 8)
