Sorry, but, as i already heard this argument before, and i know a couple of Tone2's synths now... did you actually try some different ones? And if so, do you still insist on them sounding the same? If so, i'd buy a new pair of ears really. Or try A/B'ing them more thoroughly.keel wrote:Get any, they all sounds same. So you get same sound, no matter what you buy. Easy choice
My theory: People try one of their synth. Forget about it. Then they try another, after months, or years, and are immediately like "OMG, it sounds the same!!". Well, no, not really. Electra2 sounds vastly different to Icarus for example. Filters, very different. They do share the Tone2 character though. Like all Moogs share the Moog character. Or any other company doing synths really.

Demoing them back to back to back really showcases their different strengths and workflows. Strangely, the more I play with them, the more I'm drawn to Icarus. It takes a little longer to coax the sounds I like out of it, but once I'm there it sounds great.

I just got Icarus myself. Icarus to me sounds a little bit better than Tone2's older synths. The newer tech sort of reflects Tone2's growth and improvement.
I use to own Gladiator wich is extremely flexible and versatile but my hunger and heart turned to Icarus.
To the OP; My vote is for Icarus. Several Ebay dealers have it for only $104.

T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

I once also thought that most of the Tone2 synths sounded the same & it was soley because I only tried their older ones like Gladiator, Firebird, etc. Today I tried Icarus & I'm amazed.. time to save up, going to try Nemesis & Rayblaster since I realise I've really been missing out.

I tried Electra2 and Icarus side by side. The difference was significant. Not to say they don't share a certain character. But, they definitely don't sound "the same". And Firebird sounds different to these two also.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I bumped this one!
So, there is a promotion at BestService 2for1 till Friday 13th of July 2018 midnight (thanks to tonedef71 for pointing this in the Gladiator thread). So, which 2 you went for? or thinking of purchasing?
I'm between 4 of them: Gladiator, Icarus, Electra and RayBlaster. I also like Nemesis but it is in the 5th place. I like all of them as I demoed for one day. The most two that have my attention are RayBlaster and Icarus, but I also like Gladiator (especially it is hot right now!) and Electra as well. I might just flip a coin and choose
What do you think people? Which two are the most inspiring for you?

I'd get Electra2 and Icarus. Electra2 because i think it's their best sounding synth, and Icarus because i like the architecture and features.
Shame they don't have 50% off the single plugins. Think i'd get Icarus for that price.

I have all except Rayblaster 2 (have Rayblaster 1)....
Taste is always personal, but to me by miles Icarus is the best sounding of the lot and the most unique compared to its competitors sounding of the lot.
Its the only one I have ever used in a Project besides I think Gladiator as some background stuff years ago.
Many like Electra 2 and I go from thinking it sounds good to sounds ok....
If I had to sell them and were buying them back it would be:
1. Icarus
2. Electra 2
3. Gladiator 2
4. Nemesis
5. Saurus 2 (forgot I even had this one) (unlike what some say, Diva, Repro, Strobe 2, Cypher 2, Oscar 2 etc eat it for breakfast (imho))
6. Rayblaster
The spaces are there for a reason..
my two cents.

All appear in my personal interest order :
Icarus is one of the synths I use the most (amazing resynthesis !), Electra2 is superb, and Gladiator has been my favourite synth for a few years, it has its very own sound.
Then come Nemesis, Saurus and Rayblaster (yeah, as you can see nobody seems to be saying so far that Rayblaster is one of the best...). I sold my licences for those three synths, as I wasn't using them.

Interesting
I'm demoing them now, and my confusion has increased
I mean I still can't decide at all!
OK, I can put Nemesis at the 5th place, btw, nice format zvenx with the spaces
What I noticed today:
1. Gladiator has much more to it than I thought. The Oscillator is massive with all these modulations (I haven't checked the morphing yet!). I don't have such a synth.
2. RayBlaster doesn't have filters (which is refreshing) and I can easily get some weird sounds, which is lovely for me
I don't have such a synth as well (similar synthesis).
3. Electra is a massive synth, but all seems familiar to me (not like Gladiator, RayBlaster and Nemesis). It is a great synth. The more I play with, the more I like it.
4. Icarus is not very new for me, as I did demoed it when it was released. Mostly it is familiar and it can do very nice sounds. The thing is I noticed some few presets are pushing the cpu usage to 50% in Cubase and this seems strange for me. But still in general low cpu to moderate usage.
Ok, after writing the above, I feel less confused, so maybe by tomorrow I will be able to choose the best two for me!

I have Icarus, Elec, Gladiator and if you don't have any Tone2 synths but would like to enjoy the 2for1 deal to make dance tunes then I suggest buying Gladiator & Icarus. Glad is a huge synth and you can make any digital / Analog sounds with it. Starting from version 3, Tone2 puts many effort to inject more new features/enhancement into it. Not to mention the UI is now more visible (yeah those tiny knobs you know what I mean). Icarus is a monster synth and designer weapon though ppl like to compare it with Serum. I don't have Serum but with my limited knowledge to Serum (by watching youtube tutorial etc), I found some features in Icarus are more innovative and creative (at least to me).
Next I will buy Ray and Nemi this week. Demoed Ray and I didn't fully click and I hope I can tame it while it installed on my machine. Always confused both Ray and Icarus haha. Talking about Nemi.... Although I've Blue II but Nemi has its own edge. Forget about Saurus and spend $1 to buy vacuum pro.
Last note that I've observed from the forum ... Some members said Tone2's synths are so similar to each other. I partly agreed because their demo patches are full of the BIG REVERB !
Cheers!

They are (well, similar. Not sure about SO similar). Just like the synths of any other developer/company.cowby wrote:Some members said Tone2's synths are so similar to each other.
