Great thread with lotsa thought provoking comments (refreshing)
bbtr- that’s your opinion not a fact
Zexilla- you listened to one of W’s track on SC and you’re so sure?
Vurt- you’re a bad influence
I have never classified what i do as anything beyond “electronic music” or in my bass feedback as “electro-acoustic music.” These are more descriptions of my tools than trends in music. I’m extremely disinterested in “genres” aka labeling. I don’t set out to create something that fits into a category. This whole genre wave is a straight jacket for music and it seems that it is derived from retailing music products. As in go to a “record” store and everything is squeezed into convenient categories. Now of course it’s on line and not necessarily retail anymore.
As for where does it come from (when i am at the controls) : inner space, outer space, birds, squirrels, cats, crickets, wind, water, thousands of hours listening to the above plus thousands of hours listening to music made by humans, psychedic experience, nde, contemplation, philosophy, highways, thunder, literature, aroma, sex, hiking, process, machines, watching clouds, and definitely -nothing -“the void.”
As Hans Jochaim Roedelies said to me “collecting.”

This has come up before, and someone posted an interesting video about it. Seems it's much more about how directors build scenes with already established pieces in mind, and then ask composers to, "give me something just like that". So it really becomes nothing more than a kind of composing-by-numbers type of gig![]()
I remember one such thread, and I will re-quote the taxi.com listing that I quoted there:
WANTED: Slavish imitators with lots of gear and no personal dignity or originality.EPIC, HYBRID TRAILER INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Production Music Library with a long list of Film Trailer placements. They’re eagerly searching for action packed, Mid-to-Up-Tempo, Trailer-Style Instrumentals that could work for Big Blockbuster Hollywood Movies. Please listen to the following references to get in the broad and general stylistic wheelhouse of what they’re looking for:
Pacific Rim:
Kill Command:
Precious Cargo:
Attraction:
Submit heart-pounding Instrumentals with huge drum hits, an epic orchestra, coupled with hybridized elements (Hard Rock, EDM, Dubstep, Hip-Hop, etc.) Be sure your submissions use current sounding leads, risers, stings, and pads. The structure should follow what you’d typically hear in film trailers with three distinct acts that build to a climatic crescendo. Be sure your orchestral instrumentation sounds are very convincing, and please avoid anything stiff or obviously MIDI-driven for this pitch.
I personally have always believed that real musical talent is rare and more or less randomly distributed throughout each generation.
As for real music talent: Not sure innate talent exists. I feel it's much more a combination of exposure to music (All genres), practice (10,000 hours to be an expert, so they say), and a desire that exists past the bare minimum of what it takes to get chicks and get paid.

Yes, I can hear in that track that he isn't influenced that much with usual house music/genre cliches, but more with something from his background, maybe he doesn't sound exactly the same like himself from some of his previous projects, but he doesn't sound like usual house music guy either, he brought something different to the table.CrystalWizard wrote: Zexilla- you listened to one of W’s track on SC and you’re so sure?
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?
