Several other big companies have ripped sounds from our synths in the past and sold it as 'their own' content. That's why we must protect ourselves against copyright infringement.
We will update the EULA with a more specific information especially for sound designers.
If you are a musican:
- You do not have to care about anything at all
If you are a sound designer who builds soundsets for tone2 synths:
- You do not have to care about anything at all
If you want to use our synths for other purposes:
- Simply contact us by email. Quickly describe in what context you want to use them. You'll usually get our permission. It's as simply as that.
I will not answer futher questions about the topic here on kvr. We do not do support here. Please refer to our company forum or contact our support.
Best Regards,
Markus Krause

I'd actually really like to know this, mainly to know exactly this works. I have never looked into how something like that could be done.kiezum wrote:The question you didn't answer is: do you use audio watermarks in your plugins?

Maybe a start on the subject:Delta Sign wrote: I'd actually really like to know this, mainly to know exactly this works. I have never looked into how something like that could be done.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_watermark
Maybe in the general sense related to steganography (in pictures, in TCP retransmissions, etc...)
Cheers.

Thanks for all your replies. We think differently on these matters. But I wonder if it is constructive to distrust everyone when a few companies have used your sounds.Markus Krause wrote:Furthermore i will examine if i'll remove the abbility export the osciallators as wavs for Gladiator3 again. This thread has shown that there is a high demand on abusing it.
This thread show that we like your synths! No one is out to abuse the ability to export wavs.

Should I ask Lenovo if I programmed some soft for sale on their machine?
Should I aske Microsoft If i used Word to write a book for sale?
Should Markus ask for a permision from a company that creates software for makin graphics for his syhths?

Markus already mentioned twice that as a musician everything is OK. A musician sells music (eventually ...) like an author sells books so no problem. He also mentioned that if you make sound sets to sell for Tone2 synths, then no problem. Same as making regular software that runs on Lenovo.Igro wrote:Should I ask Lenovo if I programmed some soft for sale on their machine? That's pretty clear.

Delta Sign is curious about how it may work. Not much in those long-winded threads from 2011/2014 are about the techniques at all.kiezum wrote:Watermark discussion:

Here's more to the point, an article from the University of Victoria:
http://www.ece.uvic.ca/~elec499/2003a/g ... arking.htm
And here's a 23-page summarizing the approach from Springer. Funny enough, they also use the term 'steganography' that I used a couple of replies back.

Cheers.

I think that's not a good idea. It's a feature that you already announced. People are looking forward to it. And it's a good feature. It makes sense. It gives your customers a benefit. Taking it away now is, hmmm, impulsive?!?Markus Krause wrote:Furthermore i will examine if i'll remove the abbility export the osciallators as wavs for Gladiator3 again. And it has nothing at all to do with whatever companies are sampling your stuff for their nth whatever sample library. They probably just want to sample your presets. Lazy buggers.
And if you're still afraid of us "abusing" it... don't worry. As Lotuzia once said to me, "you worry too much". And you do too. In the meantime we have figured out how to import a sample and slice it into a set of wavetables all by ourselves. Not sure if it works as well as your solution, but I guess our common customers will tell us sooner or later. No threat from our side. (where's the peace smiley from gearslutz when you need it?)

Then why dont you simply say 'Our factory waveforms and presets are off limits, you may not sample and sell them under any circumstances'.Markus Krause wrote:Several other big companies have ripped sounds from our synths in the past and sold it as 'their own' content. This would make your wishes very clear, and nobody would have a basis for any criticism.

What if that smiley was made with Tone2 software? It would be a clear EULA violation.ENV1 wrote: Ripping smilies from other forums?

On the 2nd page they discuss the technique and there's a link to an watermarking algorithm that can do it in 100x realtime. So encoding an audiostream in realtime should be possible (http://audiowatermarking.info/awt1_details.php).mevla wrote:Delta Sign is curious about how it may work. And on the 2nd page someone quotes Marcus at Tone2. Marcus wrote on the KVR forum: "Gladiator's watermarking does not steal or add frequency bands. The watermark is encoded to the phase of the signal."
