Genetic Vsti patch developement

It should really be very easy to create a VSTi that can host one other VSTi, and that can breed the way you mentioned. (I mean: there are standard templates for hosts and for VSTi's, and all you need to do is set some parameters ;)).

Can you think of what they are. Id love to post them and show these fools what Im talking about.
the only ones I can think of at the moment is the fractal flame plugin that comes with gimp and Kandid

btw I never really used the genetics options, because after listening to 3 or 4 different variations, I usually find one that I like, or I start tweaking ;).

>>You would be amazed at how well this works, at least with graphics.

You don't have to convince me. I happen to have some experience with this stuff. But you have to define your constraints and evaluation function carefully. Probably better to listen to a scale than a note. And both short notes and held ones.

I'm reminded of a MIT Freshman with the assignment to breed a virtual robot that could walk 5 meters. He got the program started, and came back in the morning to find that a walking robot had evolved shortly after he left the computer lab.

Thrilled and somewhat surprised, he viewed his simulated robot, only to see a 10 meter tall robot fall over.

The original and classic ones were KPT Texture Explorer and Convolver - still great apps though outdated.

funkadil wrote:Hi! Im a little drunk right now, but besides that here is what I have to say. I guess I am posting this in the host forum because ideally this idea would be a vst wrapper or host which performed these functions. I came up with this idea while dreaming but I forgot to post it earlier, so now I am.

The basis is that one could(pretty easily) develope a tool to allow patches of any synth to be made of any type and without any user experience(well, little). Imagine having a synth open. This synth has above it 6 or so tabs which represent the mutations of the engine. You, as the user, would click on each of these and test them out on your midi keyboard, the one you liked best would "live" and the others would die. Another iteration of the evolution of your patch would begin. and this would adopt the "genes"(set of parameters, chosen at various settings and ranges before hand) of the chosen patch. This patch would create new mutations and such would allow you to refine a patch to your desire(you play god in the dance of evolution) with little or no idea of how this synth creates sound in the first place, and with amazing and graceful ease.

Now, I do understand what I write is not revolutionary. It is a very big branch of computer science at the moment. I would just love to see this come to the vst world so I urge you bored developers to get out there and do this because it would be very much fun to have. THanks!

(if you need me to elaborate on this i would be happy)
This is what we have for the Nord G2 Modular:

works exactly this way - each patch has it's own DNA and you can crossbreed or morph between several iterations using a visual approach or by timbre etc.

I don't know a VST wrapper that you can genetically breed patches with, but I can at least recommend you my MIDI controller patch "Ewolverine" which I made in pure data. It genetically breeds MIDI controller scenes that can be interpolated in various ways. Check it out here: https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/92 ... ine-4-u/16
