Hi,

I hope this is the right place for this question...

I'm wondering what you guys do to get samples from movies.

Right now I have a little process of things to do, but it's a pain in the ass, and I was wondering if there was an easier way.

This is what I do:
-Rip the chapter with the good quote from a dvd with DVD Decrypter
-Convert the output into a wav. To do that I use BeSweet to convert it to an ac3, and then convert the ac3 to a wav.
-Find the part in the wav of that whole chapter and cut it out using a wav editing program.
-Edit the sample to clean it up if needed.

It's combersome, but it works. Any easier way to do this?

Thanks,
elp...

what soundcard do you use?

If you have creative it comes with creative recorder I think and you can record the part you want live and then use any wav editor to edit it. creative comes with something called wave lab so that you can do that.

I usually send the L and R audio on my little bro's PS2 into a spare stereo input on my soundcard, and then the visual to a TV. I then scan through the DVD and hit record in Wavlab any time i hear something interesting. I actually have a lot of this stuff that on my harddrive, taking up way to much space! I suppose digi i / o would be better, do DVD's often have SPDIF or optical?

I did once try to ripp some audio from a film using some video editing software an old room mate had. Didnt work unfortunately, might be some kind of DVD copy protection shite, i really couldnt say.

tus: i've got a m-audio revolution 7.1..

i hadn't thought of recording it like that, while watching it.. i suppose because i don't have the dvd player in the same room as my computer.. i'll give that a shot next time...

I have used ImToo DVD Audio Extractor

it makes it easier by ripping the chapter straight to .wav- but there is a problem that i can't get around whereby if there is a directors commentary, it will record that as well :(

In those instances, i load up Cubase, watch the DVD using whatever program came installed with my DVD for watching them, and hit Record when the part comes up that i like. And i don't need to f**k around with cords coming in our out of the soundcard- it's all ready automatically

How blatently criminal do you want to be?

Anyway, I can't talk

I use Nuendo2 (Expensive but it's flexible without having to buy $50k worth of hardware). You can import ac3 directly into it. De-mux with dvd-lab.

OR, Just play them on the dvd player/ps2 and record the audio as stated before.
Pick the pad :)

Do it all in yourself in a monotonal voice and tell everyone you just made a new plugin that makes everyone sound exactly like you.... Also try to charge $80 for it.

Something you may not know....

There's a program called Pssound that can extract audio from ps1 and ps2 games(need DVD drive for ps2)
