I've used the Captain plugins a bit. I like that it lives in your DAW as a VST, so you can quickly call it up when you need it without leaving the DAW. You can audition chords by clicking or pressing keys, or you can choose from a huge list of preset chord progressions (which you can then modify, of course). Once you have something you like, you can just drag the MIDI clip to the appropriate instrument/track.
It comes with quite a few preset sounds so you could use it to prototype an entire song, though I tend to only use it to come up with an interesting initial chord progression. Then I use ghost notes and the built-in scale highlighter in Studio One as well as my Mk.1 Ears to build it out.
Originally, it only came with the minor and major scales, but they've added a bunch of modes and scales since then, making it much more versatile. It's still probably best suited for pop, rock and EDM, though. I can understand the hesitation with the always online requirement. It's a shame developers don't realize that goodwill and trust are better methods than suspicion and distrust for attracting and keeping loyal customers.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I was pretty set on getting Scaler cause Sundog always looked a bit too convoluted for just finding a chord progression, but after reading these replies, I might just have to give it a go.
Shame I'm on PC as that leaves out Suggester.

6 months or so ago I was comparing the chord matrix/selection features of Harmony Navigator 2, Rapid Composer, and Sundog. Though I didn't learn the programs thoroughly, I felt HN2 provided the most guidance/features concerning finding various types of compatible chords. The general impression I got from forum reads is that the other programs are more user friendly and more often updated.

I was looking at Captain stuff but looks to me that Waveform 9 Chord Track has the functionality without the internet connection mandate. Waiting to see if I qualify for the upgrade since I owned T7 before they let it go for free.

I have Sundog, it's a bit meh workflow wise I think, I was using it in conjunction with a hooktheory. I'm going to trial Capita Chords, tried Odesi but didnt like the fact it's not vst so this might fill the gap.
Anyone else have experience of it verses sundog?
