This is more of an optional add-on than an upgrade it offers different voicing/age options and AU/VST support for those using it in Protools. Some people enjoy its simulation of hardware limitations to get some very interesting sounds.

It's only worth $8 if you find programming a VA synth unintuitive.

I was just kidding anyway. If it is worth it, and i needed it, i'd surely pay as much. $1 was a no-brainer bargain for Vacuum Pro. That's why i got it anyway.

Graphical User Interface

The GUI looks beautiful as an art, but from usability point its very hard on the eyes to work with, alot of unescessery details that just makes whole interface much more busy then it should be, the way all those parameters are presented, the pseudo 3d knobs ect ect.

Got it too. Pretty cool.

The upgrade to the full AIEP bundle is $75 too. That's a lot of stuff for the money. Any of you guys rocking the other synths and instruments? What do you consider the high and low points are?

Yup, got sucked into that black hole, without regrets, two years ago. Bought Xpand!2 for a buck, then found myself upgrading to the bundle and spending two days downloading and installing stuff.

The standouts are the synths VacuumPro, Loom, and Hybrid 3.

If you are into keys, the Mini Grand and DB-33 give you a decent piano and B-3 emulation, the DB-33, comes complete with a separate Leslie FX VST. There may be better options for these sounds, especially for solo players, but these will work fine in a mix.

Then there is the Strike 2 drummer, the Transfuser remix and groove machine, the Riser, and the Structure sampler. Structure comes with a 38GB sample library and includes tons of sounds.

The bundle is a good value, especially if you don't have a complete sound collection already. It's still a good deal just for the factory presets (thousands), that you can learn from. All in all a good collection of instrument sounds. If you cannot make music with these tools, then your tools are not the problem.

As far as the low points, some of these instruments have a dated UI, with fixed scaling, and old style preset browser menus. These could be very competitive instruments if AIR would update that. But if you can overlook the UI and some of the workflow, the sound is excellent. Considering the price ...

That's exactly how I got suckered in too, $1 Xpand2 deal (the gateway drug).

I already had the effects bundle that came with my M-Audio 2x2M, so when I found the AIEP select bundle on sale for $39 I pounced on it.
No brainer, money well spent.

Totally agree on your assessment of the instruments, VacuumPro and Hybrid are the standouts to me and MiniGrand has become my go to piano, it sounds good is light on the CPU and loads quickly !

In fact all the AIR plugins are very light on the CPU (with the possible exception of Loom with "eco" mode turned off, which takes a bit more horsepower, but even that isn't a "total" CPU killer).

I've seen VacuumPro and Hybrid both on sale for $1 lately, and unless you are totally allergic to the PACE protection, it's probably the best $1 you can spend.

If only the GUI's could be brought up to modern standards for modern displays, AIR could rule the world ! LOL.
