Well, I'm about to give Chris from V5 a spin.

Well, talk about a MAJOR step backwards. There is NO way to directly edit phonemes in V5. I looked in the manual. I checked all the FAQs at the site. I went online and asked the question to see if there's even ONE person who has previously asked this question. I found one thread but when I clicked on the link I got a 404 error, not found.
I cannot believe they did this. What if you type in a word that V5 doesn't recognize, in which case it just leaves it at the default "ooo?" Then what? You're just SOL?
If there's some hidden function or something that's not listed in the manual that somebody is aware of, please let me know.
Un freaking believable.

The manual (p. 19) talks about hitting ctrl-R (Windows) / cmd-R (Mac) to enter "Phonetic Symbols Mode" and "directly edit the phonetic symbol." Is this not what you're referring to?wagtunes wrote:Well, talk about a MAJOR step backwards. There is NO way to directly edit phonemes in V5. I looked in the manual. Never mind. They buried it in the editor menu. It used to be you could just click on edit phoneme and go inside and edit it. Now, you have two edit modes. If you're in text mode (the default) you can't edit the phoneme. If you're in phoneme mode, you can't edit the text. There is no way to enable both at the same time. So you have to keep bouncing back and forth between text and phoneme mode. If you have a lot of phonemes to edit, this becomes a royal PITA.
Seriously, V5 is a total workflow killer. It's versatile and yeah, I even got Chris to sound decent with all the controls you now have (mind blown at the power of this thing) but what a mess to work with. Takes forever to get anything done. V4 is so much faster even though it's not as flexible. I guess that's the price you pay. I don't know. Just not a lot of fun working with V5 though I have to admit, it can do a lot. An expert, with time and patience, can probably get this thing to sound really good. There are just so many parameters to learn. It's a bit daunting, even for me. The problem is, you don't really know what the effect of each one is until you use it. Open and closed mouth is probably the most powerful of them all. You can actually make these things mumble.
Unreal.

I read the whole manual. Didn't see it. Probably missed it. Figures. Haven't tried it so don't know if it actually works. Scrolling with this thing is still a nightmare and I can't find anything on that either. Of course I might have missed that too. I'm talking about scrolling across as you're selecting parts to copy. Doesn't seem to be a way to do it and I can't find anything.SirkusPi wrote:The manual (p. 19) talks about hitting ctrl-R (Windows) / cmd-R (Mac) to enter "Phonetic Symbols Mode" and "directly edit the phonetic symbol." Well, there's no need to read the manual. A simple search using 'phon' would return a few hits I believe.wagtunes wrote: I read the whole manual. Didn't see it. Probably missed it. Figures.

Well that's the first thing I did. Came up with 1 of 4. 1 wasn't it. Hit the down arrow to find 2 and it never moved. So I'm like WTF?mevla wrote:Well, there's no need to read the manual. Finally, when I could see it wasn't working I said "screw it" and read the whole manual. That's why I read the whole manual and that's why I didn't find it.

Great link. Thank you. From what I can gather from that it is a costly endeavour and no wonder why there are so few Vocaloids made. I could sink a few hours into experimenting with it, but not those dollars...Scotty wrote:There is more on development costs and related material on this page... Gave Chris from V5 a whirl. I got him to sound decent but I'd never use him for anything other than EDM stuff.

"Can I simply enter the lyrics to be sung"?
Yes it seems that there's a chance to change lyrics. Check out the video in this article here. (video at 2.55 Min)
