School me on 'Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables'

There isn't a single mention of the word "redistributable" in this whole forum section

Having trouble with a plugin crashing my DAW and in communication with the developer to try to help fix it. The problem seems to be graphical but the developer can't recreate the crash I'm getting.

I checked my program list and there's a bunch of redistributables installed: 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 - nothing newer than that.

I was wondering if I should try installing some other newer "Visual C++ Redistributables" from Microsoft and see if that helps? Is it good general practice to go through and install a whole bunch of them anyway, when setting up an audio workstation PC? What's best practice on this subject? I don't really understand how these things work so I dunno... worth a shot? Or maybe I'm thinking, unless an error specifically states a certain redistributable is missing, then don't even worry about it?

You need the package the plugin requires, not just "something newer".

Which plugin and DAW are you talking about?

So, you can download the latest redistributable packages for each Visual C++ generation from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -downloads

Installing them will not hurt, but I'm not sure how many plugins rely on them. (If I were a plugin dev, I would never rely on redist packages; I'd build my binaries to statically link, making my DLLs more portable).

What plugin/DAW is crashing, and what (if anything) is leading you to think it's a redist issue?

FL Studio 20 + Newfangled Elevate bundle latest version.

Seems to crash the DAW when you close the GUI during the "phone home" process, when you initiate the plugin and it auto-checks for an update. Open happens in the default 'OpenGL' mode I think, which makes me think it's graphics related. The developer can't recreate it and it seems to be only happening to me!
