I've asked before but got no reply.
I'm trying to find out what the licence is for the Alchemy 1.5 libraries, both factory and some of the additional ones. I want to use some of the samples in commercial production music (aka library music) - I'll probably be importing the sfz or .wav files into Equator or Halion. I know some companies had funny rules about using samples within library music.
Obviously camel Audio aren't there to ask and Apple said they would get back to me...about 18 months ago.
I even contacted one of the author's of a library but they couldn't help.
I assume there is no issue but publishers want certainty on this kind of thing. Maybe an owner of Achemy 2.0 has that info?

Apparently the copyright owners don't care enough. That's all you need to know...

If you launch the Alchemy Sound Bank installer, you have access to the Camel Alchemy license, which begins with this statement:
At the bottom of the document, you get to the license covering the samples:Alchemy comes with two license agreements - the Software License Agreement to cover the Software and the Sound License Agreement to cover the Sounds. Our Sound Library products come with the Sound Library License Agreement.
I'm no lawyer, but this sounds like the typical sample library license, i.e., you are free to use the samples in your music but not to distribute the samples themselves.SOUNDS LICENSE AGREEMENT
- The license to use Camel Audio sounds is granted to a single user only. You cannot transfer ownership of Camel Audio sounds, without first obtaining a Registration Service from Camel Audio.
- You may not distribute (commercially or otherwise) or re-package in whole or part (as audio samples, sound libraries or sound effects) individual sound samples, sound sets or audio loops. Reproduction or duplication of these collections, or any of the sound recordings contained therein, either as they exist on the discs, or by any means of processing, reformatting, mixing, re-synthesizing, or otherwise editing for use in another product or for resale, is strictly prohibited without the express written consent of Camel Audio.
- You cannot electronically transfer samples from Camel Audio to another person or group of people over the Internet, or place them in a computer network to be accessed by multiple people.
You may not use the these collections or any of the recordings contained therein for the creation of a sound library or as a sound library for any kind of synthesizer, virtual instrument, sample library, sample-based product or other musical instrument.- All unauthorized copying, trading, giving, lending, renting, redistributing or reselling of Camel Audio sounds, is expressly prohibited.

So you honestly think "a sound library" is the same as a "production music library"?DarkStar wrote:.. did you read this? You may not use the these collections or any of the recordings contained therein for the creation of a sound library or as a sound library for any kind of synthesizer, virtual instrument, sample library, sample-based product or other musical instrument.

Can you explain the difference?BertKoor wrote:So you honestly think "a sound library" is the same as a "production music library"?DarkStar wrote:.. did you read this? You may not use the these collections or any of the recordings contained therein for the creation of a sound library or as a sound library for any kind of synthesizer, virtual instrument, sample library, sample-based product or other musical instrument.

I can.
A sample library is something like a Kontakt library, or in the case of Alchemy something like DreamVoices.
Production music (library music) is a set of tracks designed for inclusion with video or radio presentation, basically a sound track. A composite work

That's my understanding too, in which case you should be fine releasing library music made with Alchemy.

The difference is stated right there. The purpose of a sound library is to be used in a synthesizer, virtual instrument, sample library, sample-based product or other musical instrument. In other words: ripping the samples and create a similar product as Alchemy.
Production music library contains pieces of music: compositions of several bars long, composed of several instruments so not just one Alchemy patch.

That would be ok for personal use and music creation. There would be an issue if you tried to sell these as sample libraries for Halion, etc.DarkStar wrote:Indeed, but the OP said " 'll probably be importing the sfz or .wav files into Equator or Halion."thecontrolcentre wrote:That's my understanding too, in which case you should be fine releasing library music made with Alchemy.

But as a user HE can do that. He can use the samples in whatever way he wishes. What he can't is produce other SOUND LIBRARIES for other products, and sell them.DarkStar wrote:Indeed, but the OP said " 'll probably be importing the sfz or .wav files into Equator or Halion."thecontrolcentre wrote:That's my understanding too, in which case you should be fine releasing library music made with Alchemy.
But MUSIC libraries, as already explained, are music compositions, (usually short tracks, but still music), therefore, it doesn't matter if he uses the samples in Alchemy or somewhere else. That's what I understand from what's in the license.
