Is it possible to add snap to grid on Wave draw.? Also the ability to adjust grid resolution?
This would make drawing waveforms for use in FM a bit more stable.
Sometimes they look symetrical but it turns out to be just a hair off.

Or add a symmetry option, in that we would draw the left segment, and the right segment would be automatically computed. (Waldorf) Microwaves used to work like that.Scrubbing Monkeys wrote:Is it possible to add snap to grid on Wave draw.? Also the ability to adjust grid resolution?

This had to be an user option, of course. Sometimes we want symmetry, sometimes we don't

So what, exactly, is the Digital Performer Stereo build for Mac? On a whim, I installed this one for the 2.16 update, and discovered that it performs substantially better. All the crackling I was getting while playing multiple notes even on fairly simple patches (2 Osc, 2 filter, Reverb) is gone.
FYI - I was experiencing the crackling even on a new 2018 Macbook Pro i9, and the CPU would never climb above 70% or so.

It was brought up in another topic how Fathom often produces great sounds by accident.
Here is an example of one of those happy accidents. I thought I would share.
I have uploaded this to Fathoms product page for those who want to see whats going on.
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/fathom ... /downloads
It includes a Wavetable with some random waves

RC, Yes I have been wanting to add those options to the wave draw view for a long time so I will try and make that a priority for the next release. Also, good point about FM. It is true that FM really only works if the area between the curve and the zero vertical axis is equally balanced exactly between positive and negative.
Fmr is right, what is really needed is a simple option that balances the positive and negative when the wave is drawn and it would fix the problem for FM.
However, there is actually an even simpler solution. Fathom internally decomposes all wave draw waves into the component partials and strips off the DC component for the audio output so that the audio output of Fathom is amplitude balanced, which is to say if you export from the host and open the audio in Audacity then the entire waveform of the full output does not drift away from the vertical zero (as it did for the first few releases of Fathom a year ago).
And the DC component is left in when the wave is displayed to the user in the graphs so it looks the same as what they had drawn, even though the DC component is (secretly) stripped out of the audio waveform.
But guess what !!! If the DC stripped version of the wave was used internally for FM then the FM would work perfectly no matter what you draw, without the user having to worry about it. This is because if you strip the DC then the resulting partials are really all just sin waves which of course are always amplitude balanced. This should really be a toggle on the FM page that says something like "Balanced Wave".
So I will do that for the next release, but also add the snap grid option to the wave draw, and maybe even finally the wave draw undo.
Teilo, That is very interesting. The Mac OSX DP build just builds the stereo plugin and leaves out the mono to mono {1, 1} plugin. So I'm thinking maybe I will just make the stereo only build the main build. Wow, so glad you noticed this!

The cry of the people has been heard ...
+ Mixer Unit
Fathom version 2.17 adds a professional Mixer unit. The Mixer provides individual volume and pan control into each output connection, as well as master controls and a built-in digital delay on each output channel. Each digital delay channel can be set using seconds, beats, oscillator cycles or samples. The mixer also provides a direct output connection to the host track before the signal splits to each output. All mixer controls can be individually modulated.

Holy sh**!? Whenever I think of a thing ... and later you tansform it into software ... I can literally feel how much thought you put into fathom. I was saying "mixer" and now this is the result. Cool man, I will do an paid update for that!!!FathomSynth wrote:Version 2.17 Released !

Peter, Thanks! Yes, there were many voices asking for a mixer so I'm glad that is finally in there.
Incidentally, because the mixer has a digital delay on the main channel and all output channels, and because the delay units can be set to seconds, beats, samples or cycles, you can actually use the unit itself to create your own phaser, chorus and digital delay effects.
