Is there still such a thing like instrumentalist snobbery around?

Anything about MUSIC but doesn't fit into the forums above.

Just because something is composed doesn't make it pleasant to listen to. I mean, what is the purpose of music? It was already the case with classical music, most of it was utterly boring and soulless in my view.
Mozart for instance, I won't even torture myself with that crap while cleaning the toilet.

I find most supposedly sophisticated music irritating. For instance certain Jazz musicians that run up and down the scales at crazy speeds. Particularly irritating with saxophone.

There are a few great musicians/composers who at the same time manage to make their music pleasant to listen or dance to. Patrice Rushen, dunno if she is still active, though...

I for one would be interested to know what the recommended musical accompaniment to cleaning the bog is.

For laundry, try the 'underpants' song ...

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

It's ironic to note that a lot of the traditional, so called, composers were often musical radicals, just as often ridiculed for their art as praised.

I studied and worked in the classical orchestral field for a decade or so whilst simultaneously working on electronic psychedelic trance music as a hobby. I learnt early on to basically keep my mouth shut about my hobby around classical musicians... as I lost serious respect from a few people around me when I hinted I was into 'electronic' music.
Of course there were exceptions to this rule, but in general I think people how have spent their lives playing an instrument will always look down on those who haven't. A fair amount of pride come a with mastering an instrument, and pride can be very hard to let go off.

So yeah definitely still a thing In my experience.

You do know, I am sure, that 'pleasant' is relative to the person listening.

Right?

Sure, but if someone likes what I dislike, I don't think much of them, anyway 8)
Like many music critics, they seem to be obsessed with complexity rather than appeal. That's why their verdicts have often nothing to do with what most people like.

There's no snobbery attached to stating facts. You'd be lying if you said otherwise.
