Best limiter?

I used Waves L2 limiter for the longest time, but recently switched over to FabFilter Pro L-2, and immediately noticed a significant improvement in quality. I'd personally recommend this limiter, also has many other useful options for dynamic control.

Honestly I wouldn´t. Despite of Aliasing we have all those bugs that they never solved. Sad story!^^harryupbabble wrote: Sun Apr 24, 2022 3:38 pm some of the crazy guys around

i was trying to solve problem with loudness using maximazers and limiters...huge mistake i would say today
Compression and eq on mixing stage then same but more careful on master bus, limiter just 0,5-1db max is enough if the mix is ok

This. Made lots of overly dense mixes before realizing the same thing. Using Pro-L, it can still be shaving up to 4db of gain off the peaks, but the real work is done in the mix.VELLTONE MUSIC wrote: Mon Apr 25, 2022 8:23 pm i was trying to solve problem with loudness using maximazers and limiters...huge mistake i would say today

Until now I always used Fabfilter's Pro-L but for the last two masters I did I used Waves L2.
Pro L distorts too much when pushed a bit hard but L2 does not with the same gain.

There is so many different type of compressors,in 99% of the cases they work better for the track and mix than limiters.
It's better to learn compression than to waste time with limiters imho.
And one more thing for newbies...
Never use multiband compression on master bus,it will destroy your mix.
Probably pro mixing engineers know how to use it correctly, but for newbies is absolute waste of time:)
I am far from mixing expert or something but learn how to glue tracks so mix to be monolit.
Listen this short demo,it's actually 7-8tracks with cakewalk pro channel compressor on master bus, nothing special, but for 60 seconds demo mix is ok thanks to the compressor.
Cheers:)

There are so many very good compressors or limiters for light to medium
compression that it is impossible to list them all.
But...if you want really heavy compression then TLS_maximizer really is
the best IMO.
However: Most of the time this is too much compression for the sound
itself. This means that the compressor TLS_Maximizer works without
artifacts, but even this clean compression is usually too much - it's
usually too loud!

In my Opinion TDR Limiter 6 GE. This thing is always at the end of my projects. Very clean results and very versatile
It has six modules like limiter, clipper, compressor (even if a comp works the same like a limiter they are of course not the same) and more stuff. You can also just use the limiter if you don't need those functions. Those modules can also be aranged and sorted in any given way to modify the result and multiply possibilities. When something works i just save it in my user presets to have a faster workflow next time. Imagine the versatility of Lifeline Expanse or Byome, but for limiting and mastering.
Here is a simple tutorial. It's even helpful for understanding mastering theory when you use other software. I learned quite a bit about Limiter Workflow from it:
FF Pro L-2 is also an excellent choice with great quality and a great UI, just like what FF is known for.
For another excellent and free alternative to both those you can grab TDRs very similar (in terms of DSP, but way less eye candy) Vladg Limiter No.6: https://www.tokyodawn.net/vladg-limiter-n6/
