I'm always up for a good collab... :hihi:

And I can record guitars/djembi's/bass/shakers for anything... and of course have me online library of guitar loops for inspirational samples! :D

I'd love to get involved in something like this as well. Sounds like fun and a great learning experience as well.

My main strength is guitar, but I can do some VSTi stuff as well.

An idea with the collab, what if we used a fee host like Kristal or something and free VSTi's as well. That would lower the bandwidth needed as some parts could be transmitted as midi data. Just a thought?

Post

I don't think Kristal supports VSTis though.

I'm in..But I wanna do a Godflesh cover :D

I think this idea is a cool one, it kinda flows with one I've had in my head for the last 2 months..but I'll hold off on unleashing that one..

I think the participants should be paired at random & assigned a random track from a pre-selected list..

Post

I dont like the whole idea. It would be easy to overdue everything.

this is a really cool idea and I believe it could work out very well. If you don't mind I'd really love to be a part of it. I have nothing to show for right now but I promise I'll come up with some stuff that you guys will think is useful.

So what is the next step??
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

I suggest xoxos decides how it's set up, based on our comments (if he likes). With so many people contributing, and possibly a strong random factor, this really needs to be 'directed'.

i can't use standard .fxb files so i'm guessing i'm doing things as audio w/ notes on bpm and placement, but i think the best principle to instate is to coordinate transfers tactically, so everyone can use their preferred setup.. whoever's next, sort it out with them.

for audio it might be nice to pass along the original w/ an extremely destructive process, but for the most part, do your thing, otherwise.. what's the point :p just keep in mind the n amount of people after you so they have somethnig to work with.

i was thinking shorter tracks because the # of files will probably multiply rapidly.. leave your dialup on all night :D

people who want to deal with smaller parcels or host specific files, get something going. the end result will consist of whatever gets there.

i suppose 50 per track is too much to hope for.. perhaps if something changes hands 8-12 times.. perhaps intuitive causality will resolve things in their order..

good enuff for go? off to sort tracks out :)
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

fine

let them come

count me in :) my specialty is constructing melodies and rhythms from recorded sounds (not necessarily from an instrument), and other mangling things.

my host is Tracktion, and i use energyXT. i know a lot of others use some of these programs; perhaps if someone makes something in eXT they could save a preset (if it's using free VSTs), and if people use Tracktion they could save an archive.

However, i can imagine that it would perhaps be most useful if people shared musical 'layers' for the tracks...

say, someone constructs some rhythmic loops with variants, and shares them across to the others. people could experiment with using them and create their own additional layers and share those too.

of course with dial-up users separated tracks could prove saddenning... but if different sections are used (shorter loops, but with variants too that can be mixed up) and a 'preview' mp3 of the context/arrangement of the files, that may help point people in the next direction?

i think i may be talking bollocks now tho..

but i'm in!
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
