I did the update (not upgrade) a few weeks ago.
I decided not to wait though. I jumped all the way from 5 to 9.5, and just had to see how much different it was.
If 10 turns out to have something I can't do without, I'll just pony up for it.
But I'll probably wait a while.

Indeed - it was quite a surprise to discover that this works in perpetuity. If you can wait until 2025, you should be able to use it to upgrade to Cubase 17.Googly Smythe wrote:Don't forget to wait for 10 is released before activating it. Depends where you're at with it, I guess.
If you buy it and don't use it for years, those are years lost that you could have been using it, IMO.
I'm kind of surprised the grace period doesn't go from the date of purchase instead of date of activation.
But I suppose the record keeping would be a nightmare with that system.

Of course - for me though I'm waiting on a specific bug fix (over 2 years and waiting) until I upgrade which is phenomenally debilitating to my workflow. The good news for me - I just learned from Steinberg support that its coming.felis wrote:Depends where you're at with it, I guess.

9.5 offers very little over 9.0 to me, so am fully intending to upgrade to 10, or even 9.5 if they fix it in the next dot update. But its nice to know that if 10 rolls around, has little that interests me and the fix still isn't there, then I can just hold on to the activation numbers until such time as it gets fixed. The 40% sale is a terrific opportunity to just bank the next upgrade that is meaningful to you.

Will they ever run an upgrade sale from regular Cubase, I'm still on 7?

If you want to get the newest version of Cubase that you already have (move from 7 to 9.5), they call that an update.breakmixer wrote:Will they ever run an upgrade sale from regular Cubase, I'm still on 7?
They did one a few weeks ago. I went from 5 Pro to 9.5 Pro. That was also 40% off.

If I have 9.5 now, can I buy the upgrade and activate to v10 when it is out?

Apparently it has always been thus for Cubase. I've never skipped an upgrade before 9.5, so never really looked into it.

if you're subscribed to their newsletter, they'll keep you updated on these offers. It's cool that they don't advertise every sale on the newsletter. Only for the products you own.

Boycott Steinberg, their VST2 stance is effing ridiculous.
They need to disappear
