VST2 plugs are still working fine in Cubase 9.5! What's your problem?!

If you don't like the VST format, you can use Audio Unit on Mac or LADSPA on Linux. No one has obliged you to use Steinberg products or technology!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I had CUBASE LE5 32bits which comes on disc with my soundcard for years and one of favorite things was to replace midi track with vst instrument directly - when update to LE9 it was changed, not sure why,now i hesitate to use free Cakewalk bandlab which don't require anything after download or to upgrade to Artist?
Wanna ask if upgrade what is the difference in activation method between LE and Artist - is this USB-eLicenser required to be connected all the time to you pc or what after internet licensing?

Yes the Artist and Full (Pro) versions require the USB dongle which you can purchase separately for around U$28 depends where you are (in NZ it was $64 NZD that's about U$43). Still the total cost of Cubase is much cheaper than shops. The only cheaper options is buying it 2nd hand from the KVR market.

I found the USB dongle less hassle than the software as I can delete and install Cubase wherever I want and just attach the USB. It still requires me to authorize/maintain through the software (elicenser) connected to the net, but still better than the restrictions of the software only protection.

What cause the hesitation isn't the usb elicenser - Cakewalk bandlab has some options and goodies that i cubase don't - not sure i want to invest money instead of time to explore a free daw.

What options/goodies that Cakewalk has and Cubase hasn't? Just curious ;)
