Well, keep your love then.chk071 wrote:Yep. Amazing. I will switch to Libre Office immediately.
No, i won't. I love MS Office.
OTOH, this brings a question. Are some government services as well as other bureaus, so slow because the employees are in love ?

Well, actually, yeah - according to those numbers - the industry DOESN'T. You thinking that 188 companies out of 30 million makes a difference is either you being 1. disingenuous or 2. grossly misrepresenting the actual math.mevla wrote:It is still not "the industry DOESN'T". .... For all intents and purposes, the industry does NOT use LO. Sorry.

I use Word for some translation work i do. And, yes, i must say that it is vastly superior to Libre Office Writer. It's faster, boots faster, the right click format tools which Writer doesn't have are great, it automatically shows an icon on the scroll bar when you open a recently opened document, so you can jump directly to the last edited page... it also has more in depth picture formatting and editing tools, and vastly superior graphics and content you can paste into the text.mevla wrote: You had a chance to compare deeply LibreOffice with MS Office to issue such a statement, probably due to your professional usage of both, and that's something about which I cannot say.
What i always have to laugh about, though, is the claims other Office suites make. "DOCX support". Well, DOCX is a proprietary format, and, apart from that, EVERY word processing software has unique, or differing functionality, so, there is NO way you can actually support a format of a different word processing software. Word also doesn't support Libre Office Writer's open docs format fully. There's always something wrong with the formatting in either of the programs.
But, OK, that's a different story. What i actually wanted to say is that it is no match, even for people merely using it a amateur level. But, hey, that's something i wouldn't even think about discussing, if the Linux people wouldn't always argue with the alternative, or even superior software, or OS. Again, Libre Office - foundation based development (if you know about foundations, they can only spend money from interests on their endowment capital). MS Office - fully commercial product with many more devs working on it, full time. Do we even have to go on discussing? Really?

I disagree. There are business using LO. They are on the extreme low side, but their use shows that LO is a viable option, when all other elements are in. Of course MS is implanted in every business. Few for that matter are using a Mac for business word processing. This is due to other factors than only the ones related per se to MS Office, like finding MS on every computer in common businesses. By common I mean that have no special links that would favour other solutions. Like, as some time ago, banks using OS/2 PM because they are tied to IBM.EnochLight wrote: Well, actually, yeah - according to those numbers - the industry DOESN'T. 188 is not much at all, but it shows that it's viable.
And there's no love involved.

WHERE WILL YOU GO SONGTEXT
You're too important for anyone
You play the role of all you long to be
But I, I know who you really are
You're the one who cries when you're alone
But where will you go
With no one left to save you from yourself
You can't escape
You can't escape
You think that I can't see right through your eyes
Scared to death to face reality
No one seems to hear your hidden cries
You're left to face yourself alone
But where will you go (where will you go)
With no one left to save you from yourself
You can't escape the truth
I realize you're afraid (I realize)
But you can't abandon everyone
You can't escape
You don't want to escape
I'm so sick of speaking words that no one understands
Is it clear enough that you can't live your whole life all alone?
I can hear you in a whisper
But you can't even hear me screaming
Where will you go (where will you go)
With no one left to save you from yourself
You can't escape
The truth
I realize you're afraid (I realize)
But you can't reject the whole world
You can't escape You don't want to escape

Well, it depends if you want to have a more flexible view of the subject or not.chk071 wrote: But, OK, that's a different story. Since you are German you probably remember the origins with Star Divison GmbH in the late 80s and SD being bought subsequently by Sun and then by Oracle. So there was good business interest in the product.
This is to say that the 'amateur' level you put forth is not the complete picture.
And by the way, to bring back a notion of audio plugins, I find that the obsolete Sax Lab and CrX plugins by Peter Linsener are great, even though by all other criteria, are obsolete and 'out of business'.
The main idea is to have not a 'poor and limited' appreciation of products out there, but one that's flexible enough to be adapted to all circumstances.

Instead, you could ask chk071 who first mentioned Libre Office. But in order to do so one must have an open .... ah well, do not mind.martinjuenke wrote:From ZEBRA to LINUX to LIBRE OFFICE…
