Is this the Jerker of which you speak? :

I've had my eye on the Creation Station $199

You would just need to add a slide-out computer keyboard drawer.

You might want to look again. My desk is VERY beefy, and quite large. One 'leg' of the desk is 7' long. Yes, you're right, a lot of them are 'flimsy', but not this one. I almost killed myself getting the box in the front door, and had to have 2 other people help me get it downstairs.deastman wrote:The standard office desks from Office Depot, etc. are usually too small as well, and poorly constructed. They seem very weak, and I can't imagine them holding up a monitor, PCR-80, heavy-duty keyboard tray, a pair of Mackie HR824s, Oberheim 2-voice, MS-20, Nord Modular, FR777, Octapad II, Theremax, turntable, DR202, ER1, MOTO828MkII, KPR77, PC1600, and various other small bits of gear! And mind you, I'm only talking about some of my tabletop gear...

Do you happen to know what the model number is?DevonB wrote:You might want to look again. My desk is VERY beefy, and quite large. One 'leg' of the desk is 7' long. I've been using the exact same desk for about 4 years. Works perfect for me...you can even put some rack (about 2 spaces worth) stuff alongside the monitor, if necessary.Har wrote:I use a Z-Line Eclipse Mobile Computer Workstation I got from Staples for $149 (last I looked, though, it was under $100)...fits my needs perfectly.

I was looking at this one actually, just before getting my Z-Line...the lack of keyboard shelf was the main problem for me, combined with the fact that if I tried to attach a slide-out drawer for one to the bottom of the desk my legs would've had about zero clearance room (not to mention my tower under there too...). I looked into a bunch of affordable slide-out keyboard drawers and couldn't seem to find one that would be the right height in relation to the bottom of the desk.torhan wrote:

Mostly they are...but then you just go nuts with a cordless screwdriver and some wood screws. Now mine would probably hold up my car.deastman wrote: The standard office desks from Office Depot, etc. are usually too small as well, and poorly constructed.

see I used the legs from an old school desk and built a rack in the front. I had home depot cut me a particable board, that way it's disposable and if I need to replace it It's like five bux. Next to it is an old rolling typing table I modified to hold my laptop and has a fold out front to extend the work surface. With my studio chair it's 270 dgrees around me without being cramped in.
My keyboard stand is the table type, I built a second tier with u bolts holding the uprights to the frame and big 12" 90 dgree brackets, the heavy duty ones and a sheet of pine notched fo cables. There's also a shelf on the wall that holds my mointors that too is nothched for cables. The lights are walmart specials.

and here's a picture of it straight ahead....actually it's a two picture shot of what my wife put's up with.
You can really see the shelf construction and tier construction...it's not pretty but I won't wake up to find my stuff crashed to the floor. You can also see the flip up shelf in front of the laptop.

btw I also built my stands for my vintage Polk audio speakers, measured to my ear hiegt each exactl the same distance away, You can see the stand good it the lowest picture...it took me 15 minutes to build the stands (but I have the tools). Actually they took lomger to paint..

Useful, but a pain in the arse to assemble. I've just recently moved and I'm dreading having to put the damned thing together again.

I must admit to being a Jerker man, although I have the other one with the considerably larger desktop and no shelves.
Where do get those Creation Stations?
