I can tell how much I like a synth by how much time I spend on a preset. If I keep going from preset to preset it's a bad sign. I just spend 10 minutes on Beautiful Pulse Lead and I'm still not done.

I think the issue is that if you buy it and then subsequently have a problem with it, Fxpansion may refuse to support you, if you are running an operating system they don't support. The memory leak issue does indicate that that there may be other bugs that were not found during testing - if those bugs affect Windows 7/8 but not 10, they won't be fixed. That's fair enough - they have published the minimum specs - but for me It's a lot of money to spend on something that I could not get support for.

I don’t know about Cypher being supported, but it seems moot as you can guarantee Windows 7 wont be supported very soon.

I would be more concerned about my OS not being updated for security and drivers than a VST.

A single instance in Reaper uses 2.5 GB of RAM (mostly for the UI) and the interface gets calculated even when shut down. Is this a video game or a music application?

It's a CPU hog as well.

@bbtr, how do you look at the task manager memory usage and know when it is the gui causing it out of curiosity.

Uh, no, about the UI running all the time is different - it takes looong to load the synth, and it takes looong to exit the DAW with it saved. BUT, when you open the UI inside a project, then close it, then open again - it opens instantly, no delay. All this - to me - means that the UI is getting calculated all the time. Now, MAYBE, when changing presets, one UI gets loaded on top of the other, on top of the other. The previous sound is no more, but the UIs get stacked.

It's a line of reasoning, could be wrong.

I have an i7-2760QM processor on a Thinkpad W520 which should be powerful, in principle.

Not sure in what reality you live but the i7 2760QM is ancient. It's one generation older than my ancient i7 3630QM which is from 2012.

So yeah, no your CPU is pretty much at the rock bottom of performance compared to anything similar that came out in the past 3 years.

Having said that, yes Cypher 2 is indeed a CPU hog just like it's predecessor.

I know that any PC product older than 5 years can be considered obsolete. But come on, i7 on a Lenovo workstation is still a top processor. I'm seeing this every day when working with other apps. If this is not good enough, what about the guys with i5 and lower specs?

I can't understand people are concerned about the fact that FXpansion didn't list Windows 7, but of all my >900 plugins I never noticed any difference in performance between my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows 10 desktop. If I encounter any issues I normally see the same thing in both computers.

Windows XP was launched and supported for 12 years. Wondows 7 was launched 2009, so if Microsoft follow the same time schedule it would mean that Windows 7 support would stop some time 2021.

January 14th to be exact. That's roughly 16 months from now. So everyone who's still running Win7 and needs an internet connection, should start thinking about a Plan B

My equally ancient Mac can still run Repro pretty well but is struggling with this, which is a pity. It would have been an instant buy, I was so looking forwards to it and it does look great but no point if I can't play it. A draft mode might help. Or multicore like Repro.
