Too me the basic oscillator and filter sound realy good, first thing I always do; go to initialised patch and just listen to 1 oscillator through a basic 24db filter sweeps...get it to quack and howl...this (to me) sounds as good as most of the top VAs.

The architecture is deep, more like a modular synth than a standard VA, those maths functions look scarey but the ramps and sequencer modulation parts give a lot of options without going there....

Not sure in what reality you live but the i7 2760QM is ancient. It's one generation older than my ancient i7 3630QM which is from 2012.

So yeah, no your CPU is pretty much at the rock bottom of performance compared to anything similar that came out in the past 3 years.

Having said that, yes Cypher 2 is indeed a CPU hog just like it's predecessor.
I know that any PC product older than 5 years can be considered obsolete. But come on, i7 on a Lenovo workstation is still a top processor. I'm seeing this every day when working with other apps. If this is not good enough, what about the guys with i5 and lower specs?
You don't seem to know much about how CPU's scale and work. Just because it says "i7" doesn't mean it's fast. A modern, 2017/2018 Intel i5 will absolutely obliterate your 6 year old i7. And that old i7 of yours is NOT a desktop CPU either so it was already on the slower end of the spectrum back when it was released (compared to desktop systems).

I think my favorite presets are in textures category. Really nice stuff for playing nice soundscapes.
A thing i don´t like is that sometimes when i switch presets i get really high peaks. So nothing i would want to use without a limiter. And some presets are way over if i use a lot polyphony as well.

I bought it, but I can't get license manager to run without crashing...so I can't comment on the synth yet.. :-|

Yeah, mine too. Loverly pads...
A well-behaved signature.

Thanks for the update, himalaya.

Welcome top KVR
Gotta love it...
IIRC when Strobe 2 came out the thread wasn't much about the sound either

I'm aware of both those facts. I also remember the laptops and PCs I used to have before I bought the W520 several years ago (e.g. around 2004-2005, then others...). For me, it's fast. And Cypher is not some sort of life-saving app that would justify a purchase of something newer. And, as I said, ppl are running all kinds of old-school HW. I just try to stay real.

Sound cannot be described with words. So people are talking about other things. And, of course, no one is going to share any serious work - patches, compositions. So talking about issues.

Ohh nice! I guess I have to check out the demo after all!

Still.. things modeled at this degree of fidelity require a lot of brute force. The FXpansion synths have always been CPU crushers, the original Cypher included. I only responded to your original rant as I thought it was silly to demand that such an old outdated CPU as yours should be able to run something like Cypher properly.

You want to use modern tools conveniently you use them with modern equipment. I really think it's that simple. FXpansion have absolutely no need to support legacy computer tech and I'm really glad they don't sacrifice sound quality for that.

I think you've BOTH made your point. How about we stop putting the boot in and move on.

Loving this so far. Can't remember the name as I'm away from the studio but the light grey skin (maybe the second to last one?) is working nicely. Well designed UI and fantastic use of 5d/MPE.
I'll dig into the synth engine later but it's already getting use on projects. Great work!

Double post, no option to delete...

I just watched the preset video with the 5D controls. It looks and sounds pretty impressive...enough so to make me want one of those Roli keyboards....BUT...I can openly admit this...I am WAYYYYY too uncoordinated to be able to do this sort of thing.

So for now, I'll probably just pass because what is left of my addled brain is now focussed on mastering riding a motorbike and that coordination will (hopefully) stop me from killing myself.
