No excitement about the JX-3P release?

It's not a plugin yet, it's just a plug-out as part of the new System 8 firmware update, so far.

Presumably a JX-3P Cloud plugin will come, but until then, only System 8 hardware owners can be excited, really... :P

Hmm....perhaps I should have kept my System-8. :dog:

It's pretty good, but if I'm being honest, it doesn't bring a whole lot new to the table in terms of sound or capabilities as it's a pretty limited synth. The System-8 1.2 update that came out before this, with the new waveform and filter types, was a much bigger update when it comes to sound capabilities.

So far, the JX-3P feels like a brighter Juno with a second oscillator and sync, but still nowhere near as fully featured as the Jupiter-8. You can't even do PWM. I like the sound of the filter with high amounts of resonance, but the synth doesn't sound as fat as a Juno and the envelopes just feel strange to me: particularly the release shape. Anyway, I'm glad they included it as a freebie for System-8 owners, but I'm still hoping they go and model a Jupiter-6 at some point.

The JX-3P does seem to be a bone that Roland has thrown to keep a lot of the System-8 owners happy, personally I find it a very uninteresting synth...

Yep, Roland YOURS. ( https://www.rolandcloud.com/yours-loyalty-program )

....
I also don't like the whole "you can never ever change your email address" thing, which I'm sure I've seen mentioned somewhere? I'm not sure they could even legally enforce this as a condition, if it is one(?) So they may want to rethink that. Anyone know anything more about this?
I ran into this before and it seems crazy to me. If an email service closes then you lose all access? CRAZY!

I'd guess they had to as the SRX patches also use internal waveforms as well as the expansion waves.

(Of course, doing it all in one plugin would mean you wouldn't have to duplicate the internal waves everytime, but...)
sinemotor wrote:Anyway, I wanted to import JVs .bin files factory patches into the SRX but the plugin couldn't read them. Both plugins are extremely similar (to not say they're the exact same) so I wonder what prevents it. I'm not a computer guy unfortunately though I'd like to understand how those .bin files work. To figure out how to import JV patches in there.
I'd guess the file format is the same, but maybe the header is different [edit: just looked "PG-JV1080" versus "PG-NEX01"].

Apart from that, the 1080 files would likely load in the SRX plugin, I'll give it a try in a bit...

Edit2: Confirmed, I changed the header in the JV's PR-A bank, and it loaded fine into the SRX plugin, and sounded as expected. If anyone wants the "SRX" compatible JV-1080 preset banks, say so, and I'll upload them here...

Edit3: Oh, here you go anyway: JV-1080 presets that load into the SRX Orchestra plugin:

Maybe I'll need to add a "Target Plugin" for this sysex import tool, to import into whatever JV/SRX plugin you require...
Hi beely, can you please convert jv-1080 bin files with jv-1080 presets to SRX KEYBOARDS compatible bin files?

I wondered when someone would ask..! :hihi:

Note: The SRX Keyboards header is, as expected, "PG-NEX02"...

Many thanks :)

So wait you just change JV1080 in the header to NEX02 and it all works? That's pretty easy to do. :D

Yep, just change the header bytes - each plugin will only load banks with the header it's expecting. That's it.

JV1080 Header: PG-JV1080
SRX Orchestra Header: PG-NEX01
SRX Keyboards Header: PG-NEX02

The SRX plugins will load the 1080 presets properly as each SRX contains the full waveform set of the JV-1080 plugin. So for the people that want a permanent license (whenever that happens), it makes sense to choose eg the SRX Keyboards plugin, with the JV-1080 presets, than the 1080 alone - as you effectively get both ;)

Yep. Hacked email is not an uncommon thing either. Plus (due to spam/phising etc) it's not at all unreasonable that some people like changing their email address every so often.

In fairness, when they launched Roland Cloud the only option was monthly subscription. So the very worst that could happen, if your email was hacked, is you'd lose 31 days. Then you'd just cancel any payment and start over with a new account.

But the picture changes significantly when yearly subs and permanent YOURS licenses are introduced. Now someone could hack the email and make off with the software. You think that, surely, Roland would accomodate customers in such circumstances. But the absolutist "you can never change your email" stance actually suggests otherwise.

In light of these additional services, Roland Cloud now really should make policies like these much clearer (Along with actually launching YOURS ;) )

Not really tbh? :/

Isn't it basically a smaller Juno? it's got two DCO's per voice instead of one, but the filters and amplifiers are supposed to be the same. It's sort of just a smaller and affordable Juno?

Everyone will have a tipping point.....every time they add another synth the value proposition changes.
