Just so. Until these were invented there was no point to having lapels at all. Now, at long last, their existence has been justified.

[voice="Abe Simpson"] Back in MYYYY DAY we wore biiiig old LAVALIERS on NECK CORDS... and we darned well LIKED it! [/voice] :-D

Ack, I was fooled by a rabbit! Lavalier means "necklace" in French.

Yup. Not many people know, but the Lapel Mic was invented by Horace Lapel in 1932, as a cunning means of attempting to revive the fortune of his family's ailing business, The Lapel Haberdashery and Wire Co. by selling to the burgeoning 'moving pictures' industry.

Unfortunately, copyright on the Lapel was misattributed as the 'Label' and the business failed, having been unable to source large enough supplies of gum arabic. Before the Copyright Office were able to rectify their mistake, Horace Lapel had comitted suicide by means of an industrial mangle, and the remains of the company were bought by Arthur CombineHarvester, noted inventor and Tenor.

Silly rabbit -- you're not tricking me again. I happen to know that horses don't wear lapels on their jackets. =^_^= *smart*

P.S.: On his birthday I'll tell you all about the life and inventions of James Tecumseh Howitzer, U.S. Army Artillery.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
