Man is least himself when he talks in the first person. Give him a mask, and he'll show you his true face

Hey guys, sorry for my late response, I was so busy this week...

Congratulations schiing, TroyakEW, zarf and L-Ectrobit, you have deserved this! TheNeverScene is confident with his DQ and it seems now everyone gained a higher rank. So, this is as it should be, as we've experienced some strange error in the score calculation process. I think bjporter needs to correct the results, so they wont confuse anyone.

Well, as a prize for my (not confirmed) 5th place I would like to have Outer Space by Audio Thing. Another reverb plugin for reverb abuse! :troll:

The Chase, you are getting so close to the Top-5, it is just a matter of luck...

I just want to share my response to that comment...

First, I thought about myself in the top 5 and thought "Man, that is so true! It's almost random sometimes!"...

...and then I thought about Z-prime, and Jasinski, and Taron, and Shiing and Photonic and J.Ruegg and Guenon and TNS and others (who I'm very sorry not to name off the top of my head), and I thought: 'Who are you trying to kid? That's not luck, that's skill and talent, again and again!'

I guess it is much easier to perceive quality in others rather than yourself. At least, some of the time, for some people. My perception is that around here, there is much more humility than arrogance in the community.

And for that, and for all the great music and learning, I would like to appreciate you all

Thanks for including me in that fine group of people, zarf! And I agree, this is a great place to share and discuss music. And humility is a lot more useful than arrogance - although I have a suspicion that both can often originate from the same source - insecurity! :)

For my own part I've always considered "quiet confidence" to be a good (as yet, unfulfilled) aspiration, but it's my insecurities that drive my desire for more knowledge and better skills. :hyper:

I think (and hope!) that skill and talent play into the equation. But I'm sure there are some other important factors as well. Even in a forum like this, where everyone are musicians, I still imagine it's harder to get to the top with more experimental sounds and genres. I've probably played it fairly safe (although not by design!) in both regards so far, and I suspect I might have benefited from that - there are usually some very accomplished pieces on the experimental side in the middle to lower parts of the scoresheet.

I mean, I'm quite happy with this older piece for a number of reasons, but I don't think it could have outperformed my entry this month - even though I think it's a better track. Not because it's over anyone's head or anything; it's a simple enough idea - it just caters to more specialized interests - and its musical merits are more debatable (e.g., it's not immediately apparent that I know my scales, time signatures and way around the keys).
