Gonna disagree here. :hihi: Criticizing one approach as being inferior is kinda too steep in my opinion. Many users really like the 3D realistic interface. Well, providing that the said GUI is of sufficiently high quality! And if you consider that a GUI can be thought of as a work of art to some degree, well... art is a subjective thing.

The new flat stuff is often really nice and practical, but some GUIs, particulary guitar amp sims, look pretty good when they are realistic, and maybe even benefit from that type of look.

And synths like Monark and Repro look pretty good. I think it's a nice idea to respect the developers design decisions.

That is why I respect the design choices you folks have made with your latest products. They are nice & modern. But pretty flat!

Crashing bug :?

Scenario:
Open Cypher 2 as a vst in your DAW. Click the save button.
A save dialogue appears.
Click several times in a fast tempo on the input fields. For example click three times in a fast tempo in the description field; then click a few times in the title field. The plugin (and Ableton) crashes.

Ableton 10, Windows 7-64 bit, i7-4790K, 16 GB ram.

I've been checking out the demo and this is pretty great. I have one issue, I'm using it with a Linnstrument, and pressure doesn't seem to be registering. I read and followed the manual (tried probably, lol). I should probably find a support email.

Post

I have no problem playing pressure with the Linnstrument on the 5D presets. I have set the Linnstrument to channel pressure, not poly aftertouch...

@Stefken can you email me the crashdump please (it should be on your desktop).

@aMUSEd nice work! Should I point people at the NI forums to go get it, or..?

It's in the NKS User Library repository - which is a dropbox folder I set up that goes with the forum thread (and is in my sig below)

Of course if you want to host it feel free, or link to it (btw I'm converting Cinematic Synthesis to NKS right now, that would not go in the user library as it's a paid addon but if you wanted to host it that would be a solution that would get it to paid users)

Thanks!

Btw @Stefken - if there are particular styles etc. you'd like for your skins (e.g. the knobs / faders), do feel free to send as simple SVGs and I can convert to code. (It doesn't import SVGs directly but the primitives are similar enough that getting a close approximation is fairly easy).

Just to confirm that the memory leak bug & a couple of other minor ones that got through have now been fixed - testing begins tomorrow, with a public update scheduled for the second week in September.

Is cypher permanently discounted for people who own a seaboard? Or who own Equator? Or is it an introductory thing?

Post

Afaik it's permanently discounted but there's also an introductory extra discount

Post

79 seems like the intro deal, but what is the permanent deal? And when does the 79 intro price end?

Post

The "list price" is $99 for upgrades from Strobe2 or Synth Squad. It's unclear if the same applies to upgrades from Seaboard and Equator.

Yes it will be $99, can't remember when the current reduction ends though, also it's definitely from Seaboards, maybe also Blocks, but not so sure about Equator.

I bought a seaboard block and am very happy with the provided benefits.
Seaboard block is the least expensive option (around 250 euro) giving you 2 octaves. if you like it: you can buy another one at a later time and connect the two seaboard blocks together which will give you 4 octaves then.

With the seaboard block, you get the equator (light), Noise app (IOS), the strobe player and a choice of Traction Waveform or M4L (3 months). On top of that you get Cypher with a 60% reduction (73 euro in my case). So you get your controller at around 50% if you will, compared to buying Cypher 2 at full price.

I see this as a very sweet deal. I looked through my e-mails but did not find how long this deal lasts.
I would not wait to long. Demo Cypher and see if you like it.
I'm very fond of the sound and I think with the MPE (hardware) support we have a little revolution going on here.
In a few years time we might be playing the violin as expressively as a real violin, while also having the broad scope of other sounds that a synthesizer provides.

Cypher 2 can also be bought as an upgrade from Strobe2 or DCAM synth squad at the same price.
